Ryobi’s Deep Line-Up Of Cleaning Devices
Ryobi has an extensive array of cleaning solutions. I have tested several of them in the past, including an 18V ONE+ Power Scrubber, their electric Pressure Washer, an 18V ONE+ Chemical Sprayer, and the USB Lithium Power Scrubber. I use the Ryobi 18V ONE+ Power Scrubbers all the time on my patio, my walkway, my stairs, and my shed. The larger 18V scrubbers are great devices, but they can be too large for many of the projects that I tackle. With its smaller, pivoting head and its telescoping handle, the Ryobi USB Lithium Telescoping Power Scrubber has distinguished itself as a valuable portable cleaning device.
Physical Footprint
The Ryobi USB Lithium Telescoping Power Scrubber is a very substantial device. It has a durable 5.25-inch rubber handle at the bottom of the pole. At the end of the handle is an integrated hanging hook to help you with storage. Above the rubber handle is a sturdy metal pole that also stores the retractable remaining portion of the pole. The black collar to tighten the pole sits atop the unmovable part of the pole. I appreciated the large size of the black collar and its embedded ridges because I could easily grasp it with 3 fingers and my thumb when I needed to loosen or tighten it.
When the telescoping pole is collapsed, the unit is 31 inches in length from the base of the handle to the top of the unit’s head. When the telescoping pole is extended fully, the unit is 47 inches in length from base to tip. The ability to add 16 inches to the length of the pole really increases the scrubber’s usefulness in and around your house.
The lithium battery compartment is at the rear end of the scrubber. The battery cover screws on securely and there is an o-ring inside it to protect it from water damage. Similar to the other Ryobi USB devices, when the plastic battery cover is removed, the battery will not fall out accidentally. You must physically pull the battery out of the compartment when you want to recharge it or swap it out.
The power button resides atop the motor itself. In front of the power button is the MAX button to increase the RPM to its highest setting. Ryobi also includes an LED in front of the MAX button to help gauge the battery life remaining.
There is a large button on the extension itself that allows you to maneuver the head into 3 different positions. Looking at the button, the scrubber can start at the 9-o’clock position and then rotate clockwise 45 degrees and then a final 45 degrees to reach the 12-o’clock position. Like the extendable handle, having 3 different head positions for the scrubber really makes it more appealing in and around the house since you can adjust its direction to fit the task at hand.
Four Scrubbing Heads Included
The Ryobi USB Lithium Telescoping Power Scrubber arrives with a 3.5″ medium bristle brush, a 3.5″ hard bristle brush, a medium bristle cone brush, and a soft bristle cone brush. I was very impressed to find that Ryobi included 4 different brush heads inside the box. It was nice to have so many choices included from the start and at this affordable price.
With several choices, I could change-up the head for each cleaning task I tackled. Both 3.5” bristle brushes worked best on flat surfaces. The bristle cone brushes were ideal for surfaces that had contours and crevices. I have used each of the heads for several weeks and the bristles on each one have persevered and look like they will last for many more months without degradation.
The hex shank accessories don’t physically lock inside the Scrubber’s head. The scrub brush inserts into the collet with a firm push and it can be removed by exerting some force to pull it out. While there is no “lock”, each of the brushes never fell out by accident.
Like their handheld USB Lithium Power Scrubber, the Telescoping Scrubber is compatible with 15 Ryobi Cleaning Hex Shank Accessories. Separately, you can purchase soft, medium, hard, and abrasive bristle brushes. Sponge and scour pads are also available for purchase.
Excellent Water Durability
The Ryobi USB Lithium Telescoping Power Scrubber was well designed for water saturation. Its enclosure is IPX7 Water Resistance Rated, which means that the tool can be submerged for 30 minutes in up to 3 feet of water. With this water resistance rating, I was never worried about rinsing the Scrubber in a bucket or a bath tub filled with water.
Battery Powered Convenience
The Ryobi USB Lithium Power Scrubber is powered by the included 2Ah lithium battery. The 2Ah lithium battery has a built-in fuel gauge. On the battery there is a button that you can depress to illuminate the LED for an estimate of the remaining battery charge—ranging from green (good) to red (depleted).
You can also gauge the battery life while using the scrubber since Ryobi brilliantly included an LED indicator directly in front of the power and MAX buttons to signal when the battery is charged (green) or has low battery (red). If you own several of Ryobi’s USB Lithium tools, then this is a great addition to your line-up since the batteries are so easy to carry with you and swap out.
I used the Telescoping Power Scrubber for approximately 3 months. For every project, I was done with the cleaning before the battery gave out. The Lithium battery really maintained an excellent charge, even when I frequently switched between the normal and MAX speeds. With normal use, the battery will last for more than an hour if you needed to use it without interruption. I noticed a reduced speed in the brush’s rotation as it neared the end of its charge.
You will need to physically remove the battery from the Scrubber to recharge it when necessary. Like the other Lithium batteries that I have tested, the battery charges in approximately 100-105 minutes using the provided USB-C cord.
Strong Cleaning Performance
I told my wife that she should be reviewing the Telescoping Power Scrubber because she was the first one to enthusiastically take it from the box and put it to work. She really appreciated the power and versatility the scrubber provided her for numerous cleaning tasks. She frequently used the 3.5″ medium bristle brush to clean the tile floors in the kitchen and the bathrooms. When the pole was fully extended, she could reach the floor comfortably and maneuver the scrubbing head to remove any difficult stains on the grout and tile.
When used inside the bath tub, she found the medium bristle cone brush to be perfect for scrubbing out any soap residue inside the angled corners and on the shelves. On the bath tub walls, she again turned to the flatter 3.5” brush. When she had to really tackle a difficult stain, she could collapse the pole to its shortest length, bend down, and use two hands to operate the head on Max speed. I have to keep the Telescoping Power Scrubber in the hallway closet beside the broom so my wife can locate it quickly. For her, it’s a really useful and time-saving cleaning solution.
I used the Telescoping Power Scrubber outside for multiple projects. In most cases, I used the 3.5” medium and hard bristle brushes since the stains were more difficult. Carrying the scrubber with me outside was quite easy since it quickly collapses to a portable size and it weighs less than 3 pounds.
I enjoyed using the pivoting head and soft cone bristle brush on the alloy wheels of our cars because it easily fit around and inside the contours of the alloy rims. The pole was also long enough and delicate enough to not scratch the car’s paint if I needed to remove any dirt from the roof.
The 3.5” medium and hard bristle brushes were ideal for the more stubborn dirt. They effortlessly removed dirt and mildew from our house’s siding. I really appreciated the extra 47 inches of reach when I was standing on a ladder with the scrubber. When I didn’t want to use a powerful pressure washer to clean our walkway or patio pavers, the brushes were perfect for that, as well as on our front stairs. The 3.5” medium bristle brush was just the right strength to also clean our resin patio furniture without causing any scratches.
For three months, the Telescoping Power Scrubber was the first cleaning tool I grabbed whenever a stain presented itself. I quickly learned to not judge the Telescoping Power Scrubber by its size alone. This is a powerful tool that I recommend holding with 2 hands because the RPMs it generates will quickly make dirt disappear.
