Ryobi USB Lithium LED Flip Light Kit (FVL52K)

What do I like about the Ryobi USB Lithium LED Flip Light Kit?  So far, I have liked everything about this LED Flip Light!  Even my wife loves this Ryobi LED Flip Light, and she is often critical of the number of LED lights that I own.

Great Form and Function

The USB Lithium LED Flip Light comes in a compact package at 4 inches tall by 3.75 inches wide by 1.5 inches deep.  When it’s not collapsed and is fully extended (180 degrees), the light measures 6 inches long.  When the 2 sections are collapsed together again, the Flip Light is an ideal size since you can carry the small light almost anywhere–in the back pocket of your jeans, inside the glove compartment of your car, or inside any drawer of your home.

The upper LED section of the light has rubberized edges so you can grasp and carry it securely.  The power button sits at the very top edge of the light.  On the left side of the light is the screw-on cover for the battery compartment.

On the collapsible stand of the LED Flip Light, Ryobi includes a  magnet on each “foot”.  These magnets were super helpful in so many different locations, though they could be a little bigger in size to attach better to uneven surfaces.

I could easily attach it under the hood of my son’s car when adding washer fluid. It attached to a steel door as an added source of light on the bulkhead stairs that I was cleaning.  Carrying one inside your car would make this an indispensable light to attach to your trunk or hood when broken down, or you could attach it to a door panel while changing a tire.  When it’s not in use, I keep the Flip Light attached to our refrigerator so it’s always readily available in case of power failure, or if some other quick need develops.

The stand of the Flip Light was strategically designed with a space just wide enough to suspend it from a 2×10 on your basement ceiling or a 2×4 in your shed.  This was a nice idea by Ryobi since the LEDs are so handy as a source of light in these normally unfinished dark spaces.  I could imagine tradesmen carrying at least one of these perfectly-sized Flip Lights in their bag for quick and easy light when they needed it.

This Ryobi Flip Light does also offer dust and water resistance with an IP54 rating.  That rating certainly increases the usefulness of the Ryobi Flip Light as a work light in a variety of weather conditions.

Great Functionality And Battery Life

The purpose of any work light is of course to provide bright illumination where and when you need it, and this USB Lithium LED Flip Light shines to the task!!  Ryobi installed 10 separate LEDs inside the Flip Light and they perform brilliantly.  The Flip Light offers 3 brightness settings, which definitely increases its flexibility and utility.  With a single press of the power button, you achieve the high setting and a whopping 500 lumens of light.  Two quick clicks of the power button achieves the medium setting, which provides 200 lumens of light output.  Three successive clicks of the power button provides you 40 lumens of light on the low setting.

On low power, the Flip Light will provide you 24 hours of lighting, on average.  That length of runtime could make this an attractive light for overnight camping trips, for sure.  Using it as a work light, the high power setting will give you a lengthy 2.25 hours of lighting.  I found that recharging a battery with the included USB-C to USB-A cable took 95-100 minutes on average.  With the availability of several of Ryobi’s easily-charged 2Ah lithium batteries, this Flip Light could offer you multiple hours of illumination in your home when you need it most.

What both my wife and I liked most about this Flip Light was its brightness and its adjustability.  The collapsible stand has a very sturdy hinge that allowed me to angle it in almost any manner I desired.  From lying flat to standing at a 90-degree angle, for instance, takes two hands since it is tight hinge.  You can’t quite achieve an angle of 135 degrees because the head of the light is heavier than the stand and the Flip Light will tip over.

The size of this Flip Light, coupled with its brightness and adjustability, means you can carry it anywhere in the house when you need more light.  This light can join you in a dark attic when storing away boxes, all while being attached to the overhead rafters using the 2-by opening on the stand.  It can neatly fit under a cramped sink when you are installing a new faucet.  It would be helpful in tight-quarters when you are painting the walls of a closet.  I did use it on the low setting as a book light in bed and it really made the pages easy to read, though it was ultimately too bright for that purpose.  Shadows and dark corners will no longer be an issue when you place down the Flip Light and let its lumens light up the spaces you are working in.

Final Thoughts

If you also believe that you can never have too many work lights in your house, then you should run out to buy the USB Lithium LED Flip Light Kit.  It’s incredibly bright and it has great functionality due to its compact size, collapsible stand, and included magnets.  It’s no wonder the Flip Light has a 4.9/5.0 score from 140 users on the Ryobi website!  At only $39.97 with an included battery, this Flip Light is a bargain.

Ryobi has recently released many different USB lighting solutions that use 2Ah lithium batteries.  These lights each can satisfy a unique need in your home, office, or workshop.  While the LED lighting solutions have many similarities, each one has its own niche.  I encourage you to have a look at some of these other lighting solutions here:
