MicroJig GRR-RIPPER 2GO Push Block Review

Safety is the most important tool in your workshop, but what if there was a tool that took it to the next level? Meet the MicroJig GRR-RIPPER 2GO – a safety push block that’s engineered to protect your hands, improve your precision, and change the way you cut. Today, we’re diving into the features that make this tool a game changer in the shop.

The MicroJig GRR-RIPPER 2GO is a USA-engineered safety push block designed for table saws, router tables, or band saws. It’s built to protect your hands and fingers while enhancing the precision and safety of your cuts. Here’s a breakdown of its features and benefits:

3 Key Features

  1. Hand & Finger Protection: The GRR-RIPPER 2GO keeps your hands and fingers safely away from the moving blade, significantly reducing the risk of cuts and injuries.
  2. Kickback Prevention: Virtually eliminates kickback by securely holding the workpiece, preventing the saw blade from catching it and keeping you safe.
  3. Precision Cutting: The precision legs provide a minimum cutting width of 5/16″ (8mm), ideal for making thin, accurate cuts.

Where a Push Stick Fails

Push sticks or push blocks are commonly used for thin rip cuts on saws or other machinery. The goal is to protect your hands while allowing control of the stock as it is pushed through the cutting head or blade.
However, push sticks can fail in a few ways. Most commonly, as the workpiece is being pushed, it may come off the fence and bind against both the blade and the fence, resulting in a kickback situation. The GRR-RIPPER 2GO addresses these issues and offers superior control.

MicroJig GRR-RIPPER 2GO | 3 Directions of Force

The GRR-RIPPER 2GO utilizes three directions of force to provide superior stock control:

  1. Downward Pressure: Keeps the workpiece stabilized on the flat surface.
  2. Inward Pressure: Applies force against the fence to minimize kickback.
  3. Forward Pressure: Feeds the stock through the cut consistently, ensuring smooth operation.

Other Uses

While using the MicroJig GRR-RIPPER 2GO, I started thinking of other applications for it:

  • Band Saw: The GRR-RIPPER 2GO can be used on its side, making it ideal for resawing on band saws. It glides along the tabletop and applies even pressure against the fence, keeping your hands safely away from the blade. This even pressure results in less blade drift and smoother cuts.
  • Router Table: The GRR-RIPPER 2GO provides an impressive grip when using a router fence or freehand routing, keeping your hands clear of spinning bits.
  • Jointer: The GRR-RIPPER 2GO is excellent for holding stock flat on the jointer. With its powerful grip, you can feed material over the cutter head without needing to apply excessive downward pressure.

Ease of Use

The GRR-RIPPER 2GO is ready to use right out of the box. If you prefer, it comes with an easy setup process. The packaging includes a color-coded index to help you align the rip fence correctly. This sticker ensures that the GRR-RIPPER is properly positioned against the fence, resulting in precise cuts every time.

The GRR-RIPPER’s staggered legs are designed to accommodate cuts from 5/16” (8mm) to 2” (50mm) wide , with the blade safely passing beneath during the cut. The GRR-RIPPEr has approximately 1-1/2″ clearance above the blade.

I used it to make safe and accurate 5/16” (8mm) thin rips on the table saw and immediately felt the power of the “gripping legs.” It’s amazing how well this little block grips and controls the stock being pushed.

I also found that using two GRR-RIPPER 2GO units to feed long stock without stopping helped reduce burning and blade marks caused by inconsistent feed rates.

Price

The MicroJig GRR-RIPPER 2GO costs $29.99, which I believe is a great value. For around 30 bucks, it’s affordable to replace over time, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone working with power tools.
Improvements:

I don’t really have anything to offer for improvement other than I do suggest you purchase and use 2 GRR-EIPPERs. I found that using 2 at a time allowed me to feed faster and with more control.

Conclusion

The GRR-RIPPER 2GO is an excellent safety tool for anyone working with a table saw, jointer, router table, or band saw. Its user-friendly design, kickback prevention, and precise cutting capabilities make it a must-have for woodworkers who value both safety and accuracy.
Whether you’re cutting small parts or thin materials, this tool ensures a safer, smoother experience at the saw. Until you try this tool, you won’t fully understand what I’m talking about – it’s a game changer!
