WUBEN X4 Compact Multi-Function Flashlight

While I already owned and appreciated the WUBEN G5 flashlight, I happily agreed to also review the WUBEN X4 Compact Multi-Function Flashlight because I believe you can never have too many flashlights!  I was very excited to review the larger WUBEN X4 EDC flashlight because it offered me even more lumens in a larger package, as well as many other very desirable and unique features.

Like the WUBEN G5 Rechargeable Flashlight, the WUBEN X4 is marketed as an Everyday Carry (EDC) light and I have been carrying it with me for almost 3 months.   I have used it for multiple hours in and around my house and it has performed really well in all locations.  The X4 is another feature-packed flashlight that will please lumen lovers everywhere.

Sized Right And Highly Portable

At only 3.77 inches in length and less than 1.5 inches in both width and depth in height, the X4 can fit comfortably in many locations.  It weighs only 89.7 grams, so you can feel its weight in your pocket or hand, but it’s still very easy to carry.  I appreciated the size and heft of the X4 in my hand because it felt substantial, but it was certainly not heavy.

Strong Pocket Clip For Backpacks And Clothing

On the backside of the X4, WUBEN included a 2.5-inch metal pocket clip.  This clip is super sturdy and it’s a valuable addition because it kept the X4 secure inside my jeans pocket and it’s long enough to attach comfortably on most belts.  I believe many contractors or first responders would love having this WUBEN X4 attached securely to their belt.  The clip also maintained a confident connection when I attached it to the chest strap on my backpacks.

Four Versatile Modes In One Switch

The power button is located on the left side of the X4 when the flashlight is laid down on its pocket clip.  The power button is black on the grey model and just slightly recessed.  The button provides good tactile feedback when you rub your thumb over it, allowing you to find the button quickly in a dark space.

The locking switch below the power button provides the user with 4 distinct modes.  When in the “lock” position, there is no power to any of the included LEDs on the X4.  The second mode on the sliding switch is used for the side-light.  The third mode on the switch is for the front flood and spot lights.  The final position is used for charging the X4 since it also uncovers the included USB-C port.  It should be noted that the sliding switch moves very easily and it can accidentally move to other positions since it doesn’t firmly “catch” in any one spot.

Intense Power In 4 LEDs

The X4 packs up to a maximum of 1,500 lumens into its small package.  WUBEN includes 4 LEDs that provide flood and spot beams all at the same time.  At its highest setting, this flashlight is so incredibly bright that it might shock first-time users—be especially careful not to shine it in the direction of an unsuspecting family member.  The light it produces is a brilliant white and it can illuminate up to 205 meters in front of you.  You really want to carry the X4’s 1500 lumens with you when you need to navigate dark streets or forests safely.

Dialed In Dimming: Precision Control From 5 to 1,500 Lumens

While it’s great having 1,500 intense lumens at your disposal, sometimes you don’t need that level of intensity.  Rather than include only 2 or 3 built-in power levels, WUBEN incorporated stepless dimming accessible through a smooth dial that can be used on both sides of the flashlight’s body.  After turning on the flashlight with your thumb, it’s effortless sliding your thumb to the dial, which also moves effortlessly in either direction.  You can max the X4 out at 1,500 lumens, and steadily step it down on the dial to as low as 5 lumens.  You know you have reached either the highest or the lowest setting when the light flashes.  Including a dial to gradually step-up or step-down the brightness is a unique customization method and I really appreciated it the more that I used the X4.  WUBEN advertises the battery can last for 3 hours at 1,500 lumens, and for up to 285 hours at 5 lumens.

Large, Long Lasting Rechargeable Battery

I am a huge fan of rechargeable flashlights after throwing away many older flashlights destroyed by battery acid from disposable AA and AAA alkaline batteries.  The battery charges using the included 8-inch USB-A to USB-C cord (the power brick is not included).  You need to slide the quick release switch all the forward to access the USB-C port in the flashlight.

After charging it, this battery has tremendous staying power.  The battery’s longevity is definitely related to its very large size since it is almost as long as the flashlight itself.  The back end of the WUBEN X4 has a locking door that you can open to access the battery.

I applaud WUBEN for making the 3,400mAh lithium-ion battery removable so that you can swap it out for a new one whenever you need to, such as when it’s no longer effective or when you’re on an extended backpacking trip.  I only charged the battery two times in 2+ months of sporadic usage and the recharging speed was notably fast.  There is little risk of the X4 turning on accidentally because of the recessed power button and sliding “locking” switch.

Magnetic Back Equals Hands-Free Convenience

The back-end of the WUBEN X4 has a built-in magnet.  This magnet is larger than the one on the WUBEN G5, and it is also quite strong.  The magnet is robust enough to attach the X4 securely to any metal surface, enabling you to direct the bright light onto your work surface with hands-free convenience.  I appreciate magnets on flashlights since a strong magnet makes the flashlight more accessible in a variety of situations.

Innovative Tactical Switch Offers Instant On Technology

One of my favorite features of the X4 is the innovative tactical switch placed at the back-end of the flashlight.  When depressed, this black switch provides timely and convenient instant-on power for the X4.  Whether it’s in floodlight mode or side-light mode, pressing the tactical switch provides you with the brightest setting for the floodlight.  You have to keep the switch depressed to keep the floodlight mode enabled, but I still loved this feature since there was no need to fumble for the power button–press the switch and you instantly get 1500 lumens of bright white light.  If the locking switch is in the charging position, the flashlight will remain on in its lowest power setting, even when you remove your thumb—this is nice when you need just a little light to illuminate your path.

A really beneficial feature for your personal safety is the flashing mode achieved when you double-click the tactical switch.  This flashing mode is incredibly bright and it will definitely disorient any potential attacker, or it could work well as a beacon when you’re lost in the woods.

Durable And Waterproof Metal Body

The X4 features a very durable metal build.  The X4 offers IP68 dust and water resistance, indicating it is dust-tight and it can withstand prolonged submersion in water beyond 1-meter.  The weighty, durable, and IP68 resistant body of the X4 really makes it suitable for any environmental condition that you can throw at it.

Multi-Use Side-Light Increases Utility

WUBEN would have achieved a very desirable flashlight with just their front spot and floodlights on the X4.  However, they increased the X4’s utility by adding a side-light, too.  This side-light is super versatile and the more you experiment with it, the more you will appreciate it.

When the mode switch is in the side-light mode, single-pressing the power button will give you an intense white light.  This light can be adjusted in brightness by using the stepless dimming dial.  I really liked the usefulness of the side-light because the X4 can be laid flat or stood up on a level surface and the LEDs will then fill your space with dazzling light.  I think including a side-light allows this flashlight to transform into a convenient work light.  And when you attach the X4 to your backpack using the heavy-duty pocket clip, the side-light naturally points forward and it can then be used to light your path—this is another “great idea” feature.

If the floodlight and side-light weren’t enough to inspire you to purchase the WUBEN X4, they also included a signaling RGB light inside the side-light.  Double-pressing the power button allows you to cycle through the different signaling modes.  The RBG light can flash red and blue, red and green, and red and yellow.  These flashing modes can operate for 185 hours at 10 lumens.  These flashing, color modes allow you to be easily seen while walking alongside a busy road, or they can be used as a safety beacon.

Expandable And Useful Accessories

While I didn’t have either item to test, it should be noted that WUBEN makes 2 very attractive accessories for the X4.  For $9.99, you can purchase either a red or an orange diffuser to put over the front LEDs to provide you with a softer, night-friendly light.  From what I saw online, the addition of a diffuser makes the X4 look more like a lantern, which is very desirable for nights by the fire pit.

For those that want a brilliant 1500 lumens illuminating a dark bike path, you can add a bike mount for the X4 for $16.90.  Everyone will see you coming with the X4 on the front handlebars of your bike!

Experimentation Is Recommended For New Users

There are so many built-in features that elevate the usefulness of the X4.  It took me time to experiment with and learn about these features.  While most people probably don’t read flashlight user manuals, I recommend looking at the X4 manual since you will want to learn how to utilize the X4 to its maximum potential.   This is not your father’s flashlight with a simple on and off button.  While there is a learning curve necessary to using it comfortably, in the end you will be glad you invested the time because the X4 really can pack a punch.

Final Thoughts On The Versatile X4 Flashlight

On their website, WUBEN advertises the X4 to be compact and versatile, as well as “not just bright… built to impress”.  After many weeks using the X4, I absolutely agree that this rechargeable flashlight is super bright and it’s impressive in so many ways.  Clipping the X4 to your belt or backpack will give you  up to 1,500 intense and customizable lumens at your fingertips, as well as peace of mind when you might need it most.  Get one today for yourself and those you want to keep safe.
