The RIDGID WD4070 (4-Gallon) Wet/Dry Vacuum Review

Managing dust and debris in finished spaces requires a careful balance of power and portability. While massive production rigs have their place for heavy demolition, the RIDGID WD4070 4-Gallon Portable Wet/Dry Vac is engineered specifically to solve a different field problem: tight spaces, quick cleanups, and precision maintenance.

Specifications

  • Drum Volume:                   4 US Gallons
  • Peak Horsepower:            5.0 HP
  • Air Volume:                        110 CFM
  • Suction Power:                  176 Air Watts
  • Hose/Accessory Diam:     1-7/8″ Excellent quality
  • Power Cord Length: 2      0 Feet

Compact Form Factor

This smaller vacuum is designed specifically for the individual finish carpenter, remodeler, or punch-list technician. Packing a 5.0 Peak HP motor into an agile, 18-pound frame, it delivers impressive performance relative to its physical footprint. It also allows for a pleated filter which is a necessity for Pro work.

Rather than relying on marketing hype, the utility of this rig comes down to smart field design:

Convenient Footprint

The unit fits cleanly into a packed truck seat or storage box. This means you do not have to haul a massive drum inside a finished home just to clean up sawdust from a couple of trim cuts.

High Suction Velocity

The 1-7/8″ hose system optimizes air velocity. While it is not built to swallow massive chunks of 2×4 framing timber, it excels at pulling sawdust from a miter saw, vacuuming out cabinet boxes, small clean ups, or detailing a work truck

Onboard Cord Management

The integrated storage caddy cleanly wraps the 20-foot power cord and snaps the extension wands into a vertical, low-profile configuration. This keeps your accessories organized and ensures the tool does not trip you up during transport.

Room For Improvement

If I were to suggest improvements for this Ridgid 4-Galln vac it would be to improve the quality and length of the hose and maybe flatten the top of the unit to allow it to better store or stack in trucks and vans

RIDGID NXT Accessories

New NXT Dual Locking Accessories are compatible with both 1-7/8 in. and 2-1/2 in. hoses and wands, making cleanup easier. The NXT® Accessory Swap and Lock Attachment System accessories line includes six vacuum attachments and one new shoe attachment kit.

The NXT Dual Accessories eliminate the need for adapters and allow users to easily switch between different size vacuums while using a single tool. The accessories are compatible with the entire line of RIDGID NXT shoes, adding more versatility to users’ cleanup.

NXT shoes are also compatible with NXT Locking Accessories, which were introduced in 2024, with one new shoe kit addition for the newly introduced Claw Nozzle.

Overall Impression |  RIDGID WD4070 (4-Gallon) Wet/Dry Vacuum

The RIDGID WD4070 (4-Gallon) is a perfect addition to your tool crib, functioning as your precision maintenance tool. It belongs on the truck for daily installation tasks, finished-home punch lists, and tight interior detailing where speed and portability dictate your workflow efficiency.
