CAT Excavator XL Work Boot

By Robert Robillard on Safety Gear and Clothing

CAT Excavator XL 8″ Waterproof Thinsulate Composite Toe Work Boot

Ten years ago, Cat Footwear introduced its proprietary SuperDuty iTechnology. The premise behind this technology was to create a durable work boot that felt more like a hiking boot. Think industrial athlete! Athletes are trained, skilled people who use specialized equipment to accomplish their tasks – we’ll so don’t you!

Boot Construction That Matters!

The Excavator XL 6” boot, that technology has evolved to include a new EaseHD (heavy duty) footbed, iTechnology construction, and an extended last for even more room and comfort for your feet. These boots are waterproof and feature 200 grams of Thinsulate.

The impressive comfort features are equally matched by the protective, safety technology that the ExcavatorXL offers, including a lightweight, yet highly protective, composite toe, electrical hazard features, and waterproof construction.

The “T1410 Outsole”

The T1410 outsole is engineered for extreme slip resistance and includes a SRX outsole compound which exceeds industry standards at reducing the risk of slips and falls in the workplace.

Toe Box Bumper

The CAT Excavator XL Work Boot features a heavyrubber bumper on the toe box. Anyone who works in the trades, and on their knees know that the toe box area on boots wears first.

Waterproof Matters To MOST!

The CAT Excavator XL work boot is waterproof, and has a 6”, 8” and pull-on styles. Theres nothing worse than getting your feet wet and having them stay wet all day.

“At Cat Footwear, we build,” says Kim Page, Vice President of Product Development for Cat Footwear. “Ten years ago, we set the standard for a boot that was built for the work site yet wore like an athletic shoe, and today, we’re further harnessing the elements of durability and boldness to give our Earthmovers a super duty boot that does it all.”

Crew Impressions

We took the CAT boots to our jobsite and outfitted three of our crew members. They all mentioned that their initial impression was that the boots appeared “bulky.” Once putting them on they all were impressed with how comfortable they felt. The sole flexed normal and was not stiff, and the leather was soft and flexible.

The crew ALL felt that it was these features, plus the soft, comfortable insole, reduced, if not eliminate, a boot break-in period.

Ive been wearing them ALL day, they’re so comfortable. ~ Lincoln B [ACC Crew]

the crew also appreciated that the boot laces are durable and have very little to no stretch in them which allows the laces to remain tight all day long. I personally own a pair of boots that loosen over  the course of the day, and have to be retied by lunch.

Overall impression was favorable – the crew unanimously liked the CAT boots. The only negative comment came when we were working in a dirt covered jobsite after a few days of rain. The crew saw that the boots tread pattern packed with mud, making them slippery when wet.
