EGO POWER+ Review

EGO POWER+ Outdoor Tool Platform

Gas vs Battery?

This spring we agreed to test out and review three products from EGO.  I have to admit that I was skeptical of any cordless outdoor lawn and garden tools based on the fact that the ones I’ve used in the past never had the run-time to make it a worthy and productive tool.

We also tested the Ego mower and if you want to see how it performed in a head to head comparison with 4 other cordless mowers please check it out here:  Best Cordless Lawn Mower Article.

I was impressed with the fact that EGO offers several tools that all work off the same battery platform. I was also intrigued to test anything that eliminated the hassle of gas, oil, fumes, noise, and a pull cord.  I convinced myself, why not try it and see if EGO could convert me from using gas power tools.

EGO POWER+ Outdoor Tool Line:

EGO has a complete line of cordless outdoor power tools. They are:

  • 56V Cordless Lawnmower
  • 56V Leaf Blower
  • 56V String Trimmer
  • 56V Hedge Trimmer

The Secret Is In the 56 Volt Battery:

The EGO is powered by a 56-Volt Lithium Ion battery and when combined with their fast charger can fully charge in 30 minutes.

The EGO battery technology uses a patented “arc” design to disperse heat. This proprietary technology works with each battery cell to maintain long-term power and run-time.

EGO Power+ Mower LM2001 – $499.00

We tested the EGO mower in our Head to Head cordless lawnmower comparison earlier this summer and it won high marks.  After this comparison testing I continued to use and test the EGO in my yard.

The unit weights 62 pounds, is solid and well built.  The cutting deck is made of high impact plastic,  one lever controls the deck height with a range of 1.2 to 3.5 inches.

One charged 4.0 Ah battery is enough to cut my entire lawn which takes approx 45 minutes.  Having two batteries and the 30-minute charger make this tool a real contender for anyone who has a larger yard.  All you have to do is swap out the batteries and keep going.

The mower starts easy, runs quiet, and cuts grass exceptionally well.   I tested this unit for noise and measured 75 decibels on a concrete floor, and it seems quieter on grass.

The mover handles adjust to two different positions measuring 42 and 46 inches which offers leverage to users of different heights.

Storage is a breeze with the EGOs telescoping and retracting handle.   Not only does the handle retract and fold over but the entire unit stores exceptionally well.

Well placed handles are located for carrying and hanging the mower.   Once folded for storage this unit can be stored horizontal on its wheels, vertical or hung on hooks. It takes up very little space and is a perfect where storage space is a valuable commodity.

Some of the most notable features are:

  •  56 volt / 3300 RPMs
  • Push button start
  • A 20-inch cutting deck
  • Cut deck height range1.2 to 3.5 inches
  • 3-in-1 function that allows for mulching, bagging or using the side discharge chute
  • 45-minute run time
  • 2 handle bar adjustments
  • Folds for compact storage
  • Single-lever, 5-position deck height adjustment. 1.7 bushel collection bag
  • LED headlights
  • Emits 20% less noise than a gas powered mower – 75 decibels
  • Compact, fold-able storage
  • 62 pounds
  • Excellent cut quality

EGO POWER+ Blower:  $ 199.00

The EGO POWER+ Blower is another marvel from EGO. It is powerful, 250-480 CFM, and is extremely lightweight.  Don’t let the compact design  fool you, at 10.59 pounds, this blower is lightweight and runs for a longtime.

I tested the blower outdoors on the lawn and measured 64 decibels – that’s quiet!  Additionally the blower operates with low vibration.

Because there are no exhaust fumes to set off smoke detectors, I’ve used this blower indoors on remodeling sites. I’ve also used it to clean up my tools and job site at the end of the day. It works exceptionally well at getting all of the PVC “static cling” dust off of my tools and out of the motor vents. And lastly it works exceptionally well as a leaf and grass blower in the yard, walkways, and patio and on the pool deck.

With the 2.0 Ah battery I am able to use this blower for an hour without changing the battery. If I need longer run-times I simply plug in the 4.0 Ah battery. The blower comes with a 40 minute charger but the battery will also charge on the 30-minute charger. I have both chargers mounted on my tools shed wall.

Some of the most notable features are:

  • 10.59 pounds
  • 64 decibels
  • 56 volt
  • 3-Speed Design:
    Speed 1 – 250 CFM
    Speed 2 – 385 CFM
    Speed 3 – Turbo Boost: 480 CFM
  • Turbine Fan Engineering: Inspired by advanced aeronautics technology
  • High-Efficiency Brushless Motor
  • Large Diameter Blower Tube

EGO POWER+ String Trimmer:  $ 199.00

The EGO POWER+ String Trimmer Rocks. I was impressed with the ease of use, reduced noise and light weight of this unit.

The EGO String trimmer weighs 11 pounds, and has dual .080” diameter strings, spanning 12 inches.

Adjusting the string is a breeze by simply bumping the trimmer head on the ground – similar to other trimmers.

The unit also will run for one-hour on the 2.0 Ah battery.

Some of the most notable features are:

  •  56 volt
  • 12” cutting swath
  • dual-feed
  • spiral twist line with a .080” diameter
  • bump head trimming system

EGO 56 Volt Batteries:

EGO offers two battery sizes; 2.0 and 4.0 Ah batteries which is nice, for weight, when switching between the larger mower and the smaller tools like the hedge trimmer.

Two chargers are also offered. The standard charger charges the 4.0 battery in 80 minutes, while the fast charger can achieve a full charge in 30 minutes.

As for that battery, extras are available for $199.99 should you feel the need, but considering that the Power+ straight trimmer, hedge trimmer, and leaf blower each also cost $199.99 and come with universal Power+ batteries that can be used in the mower.

Overall Impression:

Summers just about over and I am a EGO convert – this powerful, rechargeable outdoor tool platform takes all of the fuss, fumes and noise out of mowing, trimming and blowing my lawn.

The EGO line offers most of the tools you need to maintain an entire yard.  I look at the EGO tools as a well-engineered platform that solves problems for me outdoors. I’ve also found many other uses for the blower.

When combined with two or more batteries and the 30-minute charger negates any argument that you’ll run out of power to get your job done.  You enjoy the power of gas without the fumes.

I found the EGO system intuitive, quiet, flexible and dependable.  It provides all the power you need to get the job done right.

Time to ditch the gas can and pull cords folks!
