SimpliSafe DIY Security System

SimpliSafe DIY Security SystemSummer Homes: Protect Your Investment

As we near the end of summer, lots of people are saying “see ya later” to their vacation homes. Yes, it’s sad but true – some of us have to go back to the real world. I have a few friends who are always asking for tips when it comes to locking up their vacation home; the best ways to prep it both for the winter and to take the best safety precautions when they’re not around.

One thing I see all too often are home owners not taking the right precautions and for many, it’s a budget issue. Protecting a second home can be costly with timers, motion sensors, etc., but in my mind, why wouldn’t you want to protect your investment? This is the place you look forward to at the beginning of the summer vs. a series of headaches you have to endure (for several reasons) once you open the front door next season.

Last week, I came across a local company called SimpliSafe. Based out of Boston, they offer a DIY security system that provides 24/7 professional alarm monitoring under $15 a month. I think this is a great option for folks who don’t want to spend a lot but want peace of mind. I checked out the website and also thought this would be great for job sites and even better – my tool shed. I mean, let’s be honest, besides my clients, my tools are the second most important thing for my job, and I want to keep them safe. I spend more about $15 at Dunkins. Just saying…

After a little research, I learned the sensors arrive pre-programmed, batteries installed and adhesive strips ready-mounted—so you can get your home set up in a few minutes. I think the great part is the system is wireless and also works along with a smartphone app, so you can track your vacation home wherever you are. In any case, whatever you’re looking at, a second home or your tools, why not consider spending a little to save a lot in the long run?

I might check this system out down the road and keep you guys posted if I decide to take the leap, and test it out.
