The folks at Porter-Cable recently sent me their PorterCable 511 Cylindrical Lock Boring Jig Kit Installation Kit to review and evaluate.
This jig is used to drill precise holes in doors to allow you to install cylindrical knob sets and deadbolts. It will fit door thickness measuring 1-5/16 to 2-1/8-Inch.

First Impression:
I work on alot of doors and install alot of cylindrical locks. Most of the work the old fashioned way with a square, utility knife and a sharp chisel. When I got this tool the first thing I noticed was the storage case. It was rugged and the solid plastic housing held everything in place and will no doubt hold up well in my tool trailer.

Using The Porter-Cable 511 Lock Jig:
The speed of the set up really blew me away. I was able to drill all the holes in a door slab with one set up and in 10 minutes. All of the cuts were clean and neat. This type of work usually me a half and hour to forty minutes.
All of the bits in the case seemed of high quality, were super sharp and worked really well.
The mortising strike punches looked a little cheap but looks can be deceiving, they worked great and were very accurate.
Overall Impression:
The Porter-Cable 511 jig is a great tool and a huge time saver. I’m always saying “time saved is money earned.” this tool will do both and pay for itself on the first three doors. Bottom line: this is a professional grade tool and I was very impressed.
