PODS A Smart, Durable and Affordable Storage SystemPortable On Demand Storage

We recently had a chance to review a PODS Portable On Demand Storage container.

What’s a PODS Container?

PODS is an acronym for Portable On Demand Storage and is a system that makes moving and storage more convenient and less stressful.

I was originally interested in reviewing a PODS container because of how I felt it could be used in conjunction with home remodeling and repairs. From moving or storing personal belongings or business equipment, it seemed like a no brain-er.

PODS containers are super convenient for many aspect of a remodeling project whether large or small. It’s also a great way to temporarily store your furniture when you’re having your hardwood floor refinished.

Video review of PODS:

What Are The PODS Containers Made Of?

Portable On Demand Storage containers have a steel frame with aluminum side panels. The roof top is a translucent durable polymer material that allows ambient light to pass through and illuminate the inside of the container which is a real nice feature. Access is gained through a light-weight steel roll up door, that can be secured with two padlocks.

Are PODS Containers Tough?

Yup, Portable On Demand Storage containers are designed to withstand 110 mph winds when partially filled and PODS containers have survived many hurricanes.

We contacted PODS to do a review and were surprised to learn that a PODS container could be delivered the next day. They recommend that in order to place a PODS container on your property you need a clearance of 12 feet in width and 15 feet in height with no steep inclines, low branches or wires.

Originally we were going to use it for a job site storage container but quickly found a more exigent need. A temporary home was needed for my Cable TV Producers PediCabs.

Susan Merlino’s, Producer of Concord Carpenter Cable Show and owner of concord Pedicab shares her experience with PODS:

Whenever I hear the words “pods container” I always think of the 1978 movie, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, where pod-like plants were used to create zombie-like body doubles. It was the first creepy movie that I can remember seeing and left an impressionable image of a “pod”. So when Rob mentioned that a PODS container rental would be a good use for both of us, I was a bit unnerved. I quickly realized that a PODS container was actually a portable storage unit and indeed it would be a great use for a review for his blog and also to contain my pedicabs for a month.

I was interested in testing durability and ease of use, and it would provide a great proximity for me to the downtown area. A win-win situation.

The Portable On Demand Storage container delivery system is remarkable. The podzilla was designed specifically for use with the delivery and transfer of a PODS container. I captured the podzilla in action on video.

The delivery driver was very personable and accommodating, he was able to place the PODS container exactly where it needed to be and also very thorough with instructions on how to use and maintain the container.

The blue garage door on the front of 8’ x 16’the PODS container was wide enough to fit the pedicabs in and out easy enough and the raised wooden floor allowed for air movement and kept the unit directly off of the pavement.

The door easily lifted up and down and was fastened simply with a slide latch and a lock that I provided. I was in and out of the PODS container at least 2 times a day.

My use of the container was as a portable garage and I was able to move around inside easily enough to fix a couple of mechanical issues that popped up with the pedicabs. It also provided lots of light to come through the opaque roof, even with the door closed it was light inside to work.

It is a super clean and durable container and is able to be opened as well as secured with ease.

When it was time for the container to be retrieved the dispatcher was helpful with picking out a time that worked for me. The driver on the return was just as friendly and as helpful as the first, and was prompt with his timing.

Thank you PODS for the opportunity to utilize your portable space and if I am ever to need an on-site portable storage unit in the future I will be sure to contact PODS without hesitation.

To us PODS mean safe, secure and dry!!!
