Leviton Bluetooth Digital Switch and Timer
Leviton DDS15-BDZ Decora Digital Switch and Timer
I remember the first time I tried to program a timer switch and what a struggle it was. The timer switch was a wall dial timer and you set it like you were opening up a safe. Three turns to the left, two the right, and the last one on your number. The problem, was that you always missed a number and had to start from the beginning, which very frustrating process. When I first went to install the Leviton DDS15-BDZ Decora Digital Switch and Timer I braced myself for this same agony. Minutes later, I was pleasantly surprised at how simple it was to set up and program the Leviton Bluetooth Digital Switch and Timer on my phone, and it was also very easy to use.
The Leviton DDS15-BDZ Decora Digital Switch and Timer is a great switch to use in many situations. From your phone you can set a sleep timer, turn the lights on and off and create a schedule. My favorite way to use this switch is as a timer switch due to it’s ease of programing. After the switch is installed and programed for the first time, you can feel free to toss the instructions. Using the timer is as simple as opening the app on your phone whenever you need to turn it on, off, or change the settings.
If I didn’t tell my wife I put the switch in by the front door for the outside lights she never would of known. The Leviton Bluetooth Digital Switch and Timer is a decora switch and comes with changeable face-plates to be able to change the color from white to ivory or light almond.
Improvements needed
Due to it’s range of only 30’ the Leviton DDS15-BDZ Decora Digital Switch and Timer does have its limitations. I feel that a range of just a few more feet would make this switch far more versatile. Having to be just about in the same room limits the convenience of this switch and limits the places it can be used. It also takes quite a bit of time for the app to connect to the phone. By the time it connects I could easily walk the 30 feet and turn it on.
Programing
I found the programing of the Leviton DDS15-BDZ Decora Digital switch quite simple. I think anyone who is good with a smart phone will find it simple as well. After you download the app, it will walk you through the instructions. If you have multiple devices, make sure you are specific in naming each device. Otherwise you may get confused which switch is for what. I would go into more explanation but none is really needed.
Summary
To have a more advanced smart switch in you house you could spend thousands. The price of this switch out-weights any negatives I have found so far. The Leviton DDMX1-BLZ Decora Digital Dimmer and Timer is going for roughly $35.99 and the Leviton DDS15-BDZ Decora Digital Switch and Timer is going for $29.59. Your standard in-the-wall timer switch ranges from roughly $21 to $35 which puts this switch right in that range, but this switch can do so much more then your old timer switch.
