Kreg’s Ionic Drive Expansion: The Second Wave (2026)

Kreg is expanding its tool lineup with the 2026 release of the Ionic Drive 20V System. While historically known for manufacturing woodworking jigs and clamps, the company is shifting toward a broader catalog of battery-powered options.

Following the late-2025 release of the “Rebel” pocket-hole joiner, the April/May 2026 expansion introduces tools designed for general workshop and garage tasks. This release includes impact wrenches, drills, an angle grinder, cleanup tools, high-capacity batteries, and a faster charger.

Impact Wrench Lineup

These additions mark a departure from traditional woodworking tools, targeting automotive work and heavy construction.

High-Torque 1/2″ Impact Wrench

This tool is engineered for high-torque applications such as timber framing and mechanical repairs.

  • Performance: Delivers up to 1,200 ft-lbs of breakaway torque to loosen seized bolts or drive large structural fasteners into dense timber.

  • Control Features: Includes a four-speed selector with an Assist Mode. This setting automatically regulates speed and torque once a fastener breaks loose, preventing snapped hardware or uncontrolled spinning.

Compact Impact Wrenches (3/8″ & 1/2″ Anvils)

These two models share the same internal components but feature different anvil sizes. Designed for tight spaces, workbench assembly, or routine equipment maintenance, they deliver 650 ft-lbs of breakaway torque.

Drills

The new drills cater to two distinct needs: high-speed performance for clean holes and compact dimensions for tight spaces.

1/2″ High-Speed Hammer Drill

This model is built for drilling clean holes in hardwoods and anchoring fasteners into masonry or concrete walls. It is also rated for heavy-duty, large-diameter hole saw applications.

  • 2,500 RPM Boost Mode: Operates at a higher speed than standard drills to ensure clean entries into dense wood fibers.

  • Gyroscopic Brake: To manage the tool’s 1,000 in-lbs of torque, an internal sensor detects sudden binding or kickback if the bit catches on a knot or metal. The system cuts power instantly to prevent wrist injuries.

Compact Hammer Drill (KPTCHD0500)

Designed for working inside cabinetry or tight enclosures, this model features a sub-6-inch head length. It includes a metal chuck and hammer functionality, delivering 650 in-lbs of torque and up to 2,000 RPM. A 22-position clutch prevents users from over-driving small hardware into finished wood.

4 1/2″ – 5″ Angle Grinder

The addition of an angle grinder moves the brand further into metalworking and general fabrication.

Unlike single-speed grinders, this model features a six-speed gearbox. Users can lower the speed for wood shaping and carving, or increase it to 9,000 RPM for cutting and grinding metal.

Key Specifications:

  • Soft-Start Motor: Gradually accelerates the motor to reduce startup jerk.

  • Deadman Switch: A non-locking paddle switch automatically cuts power if the tool is dropped.

  • On-Board Storage: A spindle wrench indexes directly into the handle.

  • Accessories: Ships with safety guards for both 4 1/2″ and 5″ wheels.

Dust Management & Shop Cleanup

These cleanup tools are designed to integrate directly with Kreg’s existing dust-collection ports.

HEPA Wet/Dry Vacuum

This vacuum utilizes a HEPA-rated filtration system that captures 99.97% of fine particles down to 0.3 microns, minimizing airborne dust in confined shop spaces. It handles both liquid spills and dry debris. The included universal connector attaches directly to standard 1 1/4″ dust ports on Kreg jigs and sanders.

20V Shop Blower (KPTCB1000)

Weighing 2.5 pounds, this compact blower is intended for clearing work surfaces and machinery. Powered by a brushless motor, it produces a 200 MPH airflow with 100 CFM of clearing volume. It features a 3-speed selector, a variable-speed trigger, an extension nozzle, and three inflation adapters.

Batteries and Chargers

The initial launch utilized 2.0 Ah and 4.0 Ah batteries. This second wave introduces 6.0 Ah and 8.0 Ah capacities to support high-draw tools like the vacuum, blower, and grinder.

To reduce charging downtime, Kreg is introducing the Supercharger. This 8-amp fast charger replenishes a standard 4.0 Ah battery four times faster than the brand’s baseline charger.

Kreg’s Ionic Drive Cordless Tool Expansion | Conclusion

The 2026 Ionic Drive additions emphasize electronic control safety features—such as gyroscopic brakes and torque-assist modes—to provide more precise operation than standard construction tools. For users already committed to the battery platform, these releases expand the system’s utility from basic woodworking joinery to general mechanical and shop maintenance.
