KEEN Utility introduces KEEN.Welt Utility Work Boot

The folks at Keen have been working hard to produce a work utility boot that is both durably, comfortable and will last the test of time on the job site and I think they finally did it.  Say hello to the KEEN Welt Work Boots.

They recently sent me a pair of their KEEN Welt Work Boots “Milwaukee” boot to review and evaluate.

What is Welted Construction?

Welted construction is a tried-and-true footwear construction that typically comprises of a strip of leather or other material stitched to the upper and insole of the shoe simultaneously and then stitched and cemented to the out-sole. This process provides a more durable, longer wear as well as increased flexibility and ventilation for the wearer.

What is the KEEN Welt Work Boots All About?

Part of the durable design with KEEN Welt Work Boots.Welt is its non-continuous Goodyear welt construction that is reinforced by the traditional KEEN toe bumper.  At first impressions I did not like the rubber toe bumper and thought it looked bulky.    The reality it that ALL of my prior work boots fail at the toe area.  The toe area takes alot of abuse whether your constantly on your knees and the toe is scraping on the ground or you use your boots to align parts at work – that area gets worn out.keen welt

The Keen.Welt boots by design prevent that premature wearing away with a protective rubber lamination .

Often times however, traditional welted products may eventually delaminate from the forefoot from repeated bending and flexing of the foot, thus wearing away the welt stitch and pulling the out sole away from the upper. KEEN.Welt solves this problem with its patent-pending construction method.

The unique KEEN.Welt stitch dives under the toe and is paired with a cemented one-piece rubber out-sole and toe-bumper. This continuous piece protects the welt stitching and offers support and protection, thus delivering the flexibility of a welted product with the supreme durability of a combined rubber out-sole/toe bumper.

The Milwaukee work boot is made with a waterproof nubuck leather upper with strategically placed Tough-Tec abrasion-resistant leather patches that help provide increased durability and longevity to the boot’s upper. The Milwaukee features the unique left and right asymmetrical steel toes that provide ASTM-rated protection in a contoured toe-cap designed specifically for the boot’s last. The Milwaukee’s durability is highlighted by the new KEEN.Welt construction along with an oil- and slip-resistant non-marking out-sole. Available in brown or black leather in soft-toe and steel toe versions as well as with a Metatarsal Guard for even more advanced protection.

Overall Impression:

We have been testing the Keen.Welt on the job site for several months and find them to be well made, durable and  easy on your feet and ankles.   I especially enjoy the easy release lace eyelets on the top half of the boots.

The Keen.Welt boots are extremely warm, feature great traction and combine safety, comfort and performance while enduring the toughest conditions a job site can dish out.
