Stanley Black and Decker 2013 New Product and Media Event
Stanley Black and Decker 2013 New Product and Media Event
On August 21st I woke up at 4:30am to catch a train from Boston to New York City for the annual Stanley Black and Decker New Product Media Event. Held at the Westin New York at Times Square, it featured professional tools from Stanley, Porter-Cable, Bostitch, and DEWALT. Over two days we got the front line description of new products directly from product managers and engineers, but most importantly I got to hold the tools and test their performance.
Big News! Bostitch expands to Power Tools
Probably the biggest news out of the Stanley Black and Decker 2013 New Product Media Event was that the professional Bostitch tool line is expanding.
Trusted by professionals across the board, the Bostitch name expands to power tools with a cordless drill and driver complemented by your must have corded tools, including circular saw, reciprocating saw, jig saw, angle grinder, drill, and hammer drill. The expansion is targeted toward the professional contractor promising quality, durability, and an unbeatable price. This is a no bells and whistles tool that is built to last, and comes with a hard case. ALL of their new tools come at a price you’d never guess includes a heavy duty case!
FatMax continues to Outweigh the Competition
The Stanley FatMax tape measure is being upgraded with some in demand features. It will include on board storage for an oversized framing hook and a magnetic attachment. The tape will have the Stanley auto lock feature, but thankfully will have the ability to turn on or off the auto lock capability.
New DEWALT Tools
DEWALT announced the launch of a corded multi-tool in July, the DWE315K, and I got a chance to use it and one of the fastest tool-less blade change I’ve ever seen. The tool also has an innovative variable speed trigger.
DEWALT is releasing new blades and blade types with the product launch, two of the coolest being a hook blade perfect for cutting shingles and a grout removal blade that made quick work of grout.
A cordless and brushless 20V version of the tool is be released in November 2013, with the promise from product managers that in some applications the tool actually cut faster than its corded version.
Finally I was drooling over the expanded job-site table saws from DEWALT. The DWE7491RS has a massive 32-1/2″ rip capacity, and an innovative stand. The rack and pinion fence is keeps your cuts accurate parallel and was really easy to adjust. The table is clear below the base to enhance storage and is integrated with dust collection at two locations to keep your job-site as dust free as possible. This saw along with the two other models, DWE7480 and DWE7490X, will be available in September 2013.
Thanks to the Stanley Black and Decker staff for their hard work hosting a great event!
