Olight ArkPro Ultra Review: The New “Endgame” for Premium EDC Flashlights

The everyday carry (EDC) flashlight world is officially evolving, and this Olight ArkPro Ultra Review takes a close look at the light leading the charge. By bridging the gap between consumer gadgets and “premium-duty” professional tools, the Ultra represents a significant engineering overhaul that delivers 30% more power and a body that is 70% harder than the standard Arkfeld Pro.

While many flashlights focus solely on raw power, the ArkPro Ultra takes a sophisticated turn with its defining technical trait: the EIP 1 LED. This proprietary emitter was developed in-house by Olight as a direct response to Olight fan complaints regarding “ugly green” tints. By maintaining a neutral-to-cool white (5700K–6000K) with an incredibly low $Duv$, the light remains crisp and white even on the lowest brightness settings, avoiding the sickly yellow hues of standard emitters.

Note: In lighting science, $Duv$ (short for Delta $u,v$) is the metric used to measure how much a white light shifts toward green or magenta.

Beyond the Arkfeld—the ArkPro Ultra Review

Physically, the Onyx Black Edition serves as the “tactical-stealth” model, removing the blue accents found on other models for a fully monochromatic look. Its body is crafted from O-Aluminum (OAL), a material that approaches the yield strength of titanium.

While this makes it exceptionally resistant to “pocket peening” (those annoying small dents caused by keys), testers note a trade-off: because the material is so hard, the anodized finish can be slightly more brittle—meaning it may chip rather than dent if dropped on concrete.

The Onyx Black also features a unique striated “brushed” finish for a grippy feel without aggressive knurling, paired with a physically revised Selector Dial that offers a much more “positive” mechanical engagement when switching modes.

The EIP 1 “Clean White” LED: No More Green Tint

The star of the show is the self-developed EIP 1 chip. Unlike generic cool-white LEDs that often lean green (positive $Duv$), Olight has tuned this emitter to stay close to the blackbody radiator line. This means even when you’re using the light in “Moonlight” or “Low” modes, you get a clean, professional-looking beam rather than a nauseating lime-green cast.

O-Aluminum & Durability

The 1.73x increase in hardness over standard 6061 aluminum isn’t just marketing fluff. This material ensures that even after a year in a pocket full of keys and pocket knives, the ArkPro Ultra maintains its structural integrity. The striated surface process adds a layer of sophistication, mimicking traditional brushed metal while remaining smooth enough to slide in and out of denim pockets without snagging.

Quad-Output Versatility: ZWB2 Filtered UV, Green Laser, and Dual-Lens Logic

The Ultra packs four distinct light sources into its flat frame. While it boasts a massive 1,700-lumen flood, it also adds a ZWB2 “Black Glass” filter over the UV emitter. This is a game-changer; standard UV LEDs leak visible purple light that washes out contrast, but the ZWB2 filter blocks that “noise,” making plumbing inspections easier, when looking for  Weld-On P-68 UV Glow Primer.

While this primer appears clear to the naked eye—avoiding the messy purple stains of traditional products—it glows a vibrant purple under UV light, allowing you to quickly and professionally confirm that the pipe was properly prepared for a secure bond.

Furthermore, the Independent Laser Button allows you to operate the Class 1 green laser simultaneously with any other light source. Thats a nice feature!

ArkBeat Indicators and Hybrid Charging

Olight introduced ArkBeat, a pulsing battery indicator that acts like a “heartbeat” when the light is active. Users can manually lock in one of seven colors (White, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple) to match their personal EDC theme. Finally, charging is more flexible than ever with a Hybrid system: use the signature Olight magnetic MCC cable at home, or flip the metal port cover to use a standard USB-C cable while traveling.

How to Lock In the ArkBeat color:

Locking in the ArkBeat color is a bit of a “hidden” feature on the Olight ArkPro Ultra, as it’s designed to gamify your light usage (it usually changes colors based on how many hours you’ve used the light).

To manually “lock in” or choose your favorite color (like Cyan or Purple) to match your EDC theme, follow these steps:

1. The “Unlock” Requirement
Before you can manually pick a color, you must first “unlock” the full color cycle. This happens automatically once the light has been used enough to cycle through all colors (White → Purple).

Note: If your light is brand new and still on “White,” you may need to let it run until it naturally cycles once, or check if your firmware allows immediate selection by trying the steps below.

2. How to Select Your Color
Once the cycle is available, follow this sequence: Turn on Pure Flood mode: Rotate your selector to the white light setting and ensure you are in the “Pure Flood” (wide beam) mode.

  •  The Double-Press: While the light is ON, double-press the side button (the tactical laser switch).
  • Cycle through: Each double-press will skip to the next color in the sequence:

White → Orange → Yellow → Green → Cyan → Blue → Purple

Stop: When you reach the color you want, simply stop pressing. The light will “lock” that color as your default heartbeat indicator.

3. How to Enable/Disable ArkBeat Entirely
If the pulsing “heartbeat” is distracting and you want to turn it off (or back on):

  • Start with the light OFF.
  • Press and hold the side button.
  • While holding the side button, double-press the center power button.

Release the side button. The indicator will blink to confirm it has been toggled.

Conclusion

In summary, the Olight ArkPro Ultra Onyx Black Edition is the definitive “Endgame” of the series. By combining the tint-free EIP 1 LED with a virtually indestructible O-Aluminum body and the ability to run the laser and light simultaneously, Olight has created a professional-grade multi-tool. It’s a bit heavier and the finish is more prone to chipping than denting, but the sheer level of technical refinement makes it the highest-spec flat light currently available.
