New England Woodworking Groups Showcase Skills with Live Demonstrations

Expert Speakers, New Tools, Hands-on Seminars for Woodworkers & D.I.Y Enthusiasts

Local woodworking guilds and community groups will help New England D.I.Yers, hobbyists and woodworkers to “sharpen their skills” during informal Strolling Seminars at The Woodworking & D.I.Y Show

Visitors will benefit from hands-on instruction as local woodworking & D.I.Y aficionados demonstrate their expertise in a variety of skills including cutting, strolling, seam bending, carving, treading, and turning. In addition to demonstrations from local groups, visitors to the Show will also see the latest tools and products, hear from the country’s most recognized woodworking and D.I.Y experts, get hands-on with family-friendly woodworking projects, and enter their work in the ShowOFF Showcase competition.
The community organizations at The Woodworking and D.I.Y Show in New England will represent a large range of woodworking disciplines. For seasoned woodworkers, The Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking and The New England School of Architectural Woodworking will review tool sharpening and general woodworking techniques, to advanced demonstrations on creating elaborate inlays and veneers.

The Acanthus Workshop will show visitors how to lay out and carve a scallop shell used in furniture, and share tips for perfecting hand-cut dovetail joinery.

The Western Mass Scollers will offer an introduction to the materials and blades needed for hobbyists to complete simple projects using a scroll-saw. Members of the Central Connecticut Woodturners will reveal the tools and techniques used to craft wood into objects like bowls, boxes, vases, and pens.
How-to advice will also come from informative expert seminars hosted by national woodworking and D.I.Y celebrities. In start-to-finish demonstrations.

Visitors will be able to put their new knowledge and skills to work with tools from the country’s leading manufacturers, including Bosch, Jet, Powertec Tools, Milescraft, Woodline USA, Bad Dog Tools, Delta/Porter Cable. Visitors can get hands-on as they test drive the latest tools and gear on the market while shopping the season’s lowest prices and Show-only specials.

New England woodworkers of all experience levels are invited to be a ShowOFF during friendly competition in the ShowOFF Showcase. Local woodworkers and craftsmen can enter a project created within the last 12 months to receive feedback from peers and woodworking masters.   For details visit www.TheWoodworkingShows.com.
Children will also be able to whittle a little in the Learn to Turn demonstration area sponsored by Craft Supplies. Young lumber-lovers will enjoy learning woodworking basics as they use a lathe to fashion their own one-of-a-kind pen to take home.
