3-Speeds & 4-Settings
The additional benefits of brush-less technology is the advanced electronics, which Makita brings with a combination battery fuel gauge and 4-setting interface right on the base of the driver.
The T-mode allows self setting screws to get the high no load speed to set quickly and then provide the high impacts per minute to finish heavy duty fasteners.
The Soft setting is an unique feature for an impact driver, it provides the torque you expect from an impact driver, but does not overdue the RPMs allowing you to control the tool better, we found this setting useful, when backing out mystery screws during demolition.
The Medium setting is probably the best setting to keep the driver at for typical driver use for exterior screws and small traditional fasteners.
The Hard setting provides high impact per minute and high RPMs to quickly drive your heavy duty fasteners for structural framing like the beloved Timberlok
Ergonomics
The Driver itself is well balanced and feels great in your hand and it seems like folks at Makita have hit the sweet spot with the forward and reverse buttons on the driver. The button slide is just within reach of the thumb and index finger helping you feel for it and quickly change the drivers direction.
The 1/4-inch hex shank is hands free for quick bit changes, which is really nice and you may not notice how efficient it is until you reach for a tool without it. The ease and speed of just inserting a bit and moving on to your work is more than nice to have as you avoid clumsy bit changes and struggles while trying to juggle three items in your hands.
Battery & Power
The 18v 3.0Ah Battery lasts extremely long hooked up to this efficient brush-less tool, using it for conventional fasteners on the job I went for a week without needing a charge. Once you get to driving heavy duty Trussloks and Timberloks the battery will drain, but the Makita 30-minute charger will get your battery ready to work during lunch.
