BORG LOCKS Marine Grade Deadbolt for Wooden Pool Gate

Securing a pool area presents a unique challenge where safety, convenience, and environmental longevity must intersect. A wooden gate is often the weakest link in a home’s perimeter, especially when standard hardware succumbs to chlorine, salt, and humidity. After evaluating various options, I selected the Borglocks BL2600 ECP lock as the
primary defense for our pool area. This mechanical keypad lock was chosen not just for its reputation, but for its ability to provide high-level security without the fragility of electronic components or the hassle of traditional key management.

Top Three Advantages for Pool Security

1. Outdoor Protection: The primary reason for choosing the BL2600 is the MG Pro2 Marine Grade finish. In an outdoor, pool environment, standard hardware often pits and seizes within a single season. This model is salt spray tested for over 1,000 hours, ensuring the keypad remains operational despite the constant exposure to water and chemicals.

2. Simplified Guest Access: The Easicode Pro (ECP) function was a deciding factor. Because
pools often require access for maintenance crews or seasonal guests, the ability to change the entry code in under thirty seconds while the lock remains mounted on the gate is invaluable. It removes the risk of losing small internal parts in the grass, which is a common failure point for older mechanical locks.

3. Battery-Free Reliability: Near a pool, electronics are a liability. By choosing a 100 percent mechanical system, there is no risk of a circuit board shorting out during a thunderstorm or batteries dying while the gate is locked. It provides a consistent, dependable barrier that requires no power source to maintain the safety of the perimeter.

Custom Security Enhancements

To further harden the gate against unauthorized entry, two specific site modifications were made. First, the lock was mounted at a lower elevation than standard. This intentional “Low” placement prevents an adult from simply reaching over the top of the wooden gate to operate the internal handle.

Second, to address the vulnerability of the vertical slats, metal wire cloth (chicken wire) was installed across a triangular section covering three gate slats. This mesh prevents a person from reaching through the gaps to manipulate the internal handle or the lock mechanism, effectively sealing the reach-through points.

Overall Impression

The Borg locks BL2600 ECP was easy to install, my box was missing an instruction sheet but the install was intuitive. The Borb lock has proven to be an exceptional solution for my specific wooden pool gate.

I was impressed with the fit, finish and robust build quality with this Borg lock. By combining its robust marine-grade construction with tailored security measures like wire-cloth shielding and strategic mounting, the gate has been transformed into a reliable security point.

This setup offers peace of mind by ensuring the pool remains inaccessible to unauthorized users and safe for children, all while standing up to the harsh realities of an outdoor aquatic environment. It is a highly recommended investment and cheap insurance for any homeowner looking for a permanent, low-maintenance access control solution.
