Arborwear Heavy Tech Henley Style Review #706701

Working in construction and having rugged clothing go hand in hand. There is nothing worse than working in clothes that easily tear, wear out or just do not perform well in the field. My search for rugged clothing is never ending.  I am always on the look out for premium clothing that has exceptional durability, comfort, quality of construction, and fit that you can not only feel in the fabric but see the results in the performance of the clothing.

The folks at Arborwear recently released a new heavy duty, Henley style long sleeve cotton shirt that is not only great looking to wear but durable as well. I’ve been wearing this to work [job-site] and as around casually for a few weeks, here are my thoughts.

Henley Shirt – Arborwear

You may be wondering what a Henley shirt is. A Henley shirt is a collarless pullover shirt, characterized by a placket beneath the round neckline, about 3 to 5 inches (8 to 13 cm) long and usually having 2–5 buttons. The placket is a multiple layer of fabric, that overlap to protect the wearer from having the three buttons rubbing against their skin.

Arborwear Henley Colors

In clothing, heather refers to interwoven/ inter-knitted yarns of mixed colors producing flecks of an alternate color. Arborwear mixes shades of white or black with another gray and blue color to produce the Arborwear Heavy Tech Henley in two muted shades:

  • Charcoal Heather
  • Heather blue

Arborwear Comfort, Quality and Odor Control

The Arborwear Heavy Tech Henley feels like quality when you put it on. It is constructed out of 8.85 oz. Poly/Cotton Performance Blend. (85% Poly/15% Cotton) While testing these shirts I mostly wore them as a layering layer, only a few times did I wear them as an outer garment. The few times I did, it resisted pilling when I rubbed up against things.

Arborwear states that this shirt will hold its shape over time and will neutralizing odors with it’s FreshGuard treatment. FreshGuard is embedded in all dri-release fabrics, and blocks odor-causing sebaceous body oils from attaching to the fabric and stops the attraction of odor-causing bacteria.

Henley Shirt Moisture Wicking Capabilities

Let’s face it, nothing is more comfortable than cotton, but when you work outdoors cotton is a nightmare when wet.

Clothing keeps you warm by trapping warm air near your skin. When cotton gets wet, it ceases to insulate you because all of the air pockets in the fabric fill up with water. If the air is colder than your body temperature, you’ll feel cold because your cotton clothing is saturated and no longer providing an insulation.

Arborwear states this shirt has moisture wicking capabilities and will dry four-times [4X] faster than cotton. The fabric has been treated with DriRelease.®

Drirelease® is an engineered yarn, which uses a micro blend of natural and synthetic fibers that pulls moisture from the skin and releases it into the air— keeping you dry. The great thing about DriRelease is that it is built into the yarn of the shirt and will not wash out. According to Arborwaear the Heavy Tech Henley shirt will dry 4X faster than cotton alone.

Arborwear Henley DriRelease Features

  • Dries 4x faster than cotton
  • Comfortable
  • Wicking qualities won’t wash out
  • Resists pilling and wrinkling
  • Won’t discolor with perspiration
  • No annoying static cling; great for layering
  • Virtually neutralizes odor
  • Environmentally friendly without harmful chemicals

Overall Impression – Arborwear Heavy Tech Henley Shirt

The Arborwear Henley shirts are great looking shirts on or off the job site. I used them as a layering layer under my hoodie on early mornings until the sun warmed up and also throw them on with a pair of jeans for a great casual look. They are versatile and a great addition to your wardrobe. The shirts wear well over time, resist pilling and are an absolute bargain at $49.95.
