Milwaukee Has A New 5/8” SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill 5263-21

This week I attended the 2011 Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation’s media event at their facility in Brookfield, WI.  Editors from both print and online media attended to preview and test the latest and greatest of Milwaukee’s tool releases.

It’s funny, you have a room full of print and online media trade publication editors and only a few of them actually put their hands on the tools??  It never ceases to amaze me.  At these events the same people continually volunteer to test the tools.  I try to test them all, in fact, I’m disappointed  when I’m unable to try out a specific tool.

I guess actively working in the trades give me that curiosity to keep looking for that tool that will give me more power, less fatigue and make me money. . .  oh yea and did I mention doing all of this fast?  After all, time is money right?

Being an active contractor also gives me a comfort level with these tools that I guess many of the other editors do not have.  Either way, that just means more time on the tools for me!

Milwaukee 5/8” SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Drill

One of Milwaukee’s new releases that really caught my attention and qualifies as a time and money saver was their 5/8” SDS Plus Rotary Hammer Model 5263-21.  What attracted me the most to this tool was its size.  It is super compact at 10.9” long and super light, weighing in at 4.6 pounds.  It actually looks like a toy . . . until you use it!

The Milwaukee 5263-21 is a corded tool.  They also had a cordless hammer that was nice but in my line of work I am more interested in a corded tool because I use rotary hammer drills so infrequently I don’t mind having a corded tool.  It lasts longer and there are fewer parts [charger, 2 batteries] to have to carry and store in my tool trailer.

The Milwaukee 5263-21 is ideal for contractors who need a hammer drill that is rugged and compact to get into tight spots as well as allow them to work overhead, all day minimizing shoulder and neck fatigue.  I pretty much “power to weight” ratios to make my purchasing decisions on all tools.  It’s super important as I don’t want a tool that will beat me up using it.  As I get older in this trade I’m looking to work smarter not harder.

I tested out the Milwaukee 5/8” SDS plus Hammer in overhead testing station and I have to say it was super light and easy to use.  No effort here folks.   Getting into tight spaces is not an issue either.  This tool also has an Anti-Vibration System (AVS™) built into the handle which is helpful in minimizing vibration.

I can see electricians, plumbers and HVAC people installing anchors into concrete loving this tool!  Rick Gambaccini, Group Product Manager for Milwaukee Tool Corp  explained to me that this new hammer has an innovative gear design with a drop motor to better balance this tool.

The Milwaukee 5/8” SDS Plus Hammer 5263-21 also provides 1.5ft-lbs of impact energy and 0-3,700 RPM.  It is also backed up by Milwaukee’s five year tool / one year service warranty this tool is going to be a game changer in compact SDS hammer drills.
