Makita 18V Drill-Driver Preview

When I first started out in the remodeling field Makita was the only option for cordless drills.  Alot of things have changed since then with better battery technology and power to weight ratios that never cease to impress me.  One thing remains true is that Makita is not going away.

So what’s new at Makita?  It’s the Makita 18V LXT ½” Drill-Driver Model LXFD01.  This drill / driver weighs 3.8 pounds, is only 7-9/16″ long and delivers 480 in.lbs. of Max Torque and 290 inch lbs. of PTI torque.

PTI torque is a test method, agreed upon by all major power tool companies in the Power Tool Institute, and is the industry’s first standard to measure torque in drills. Torque is one of the best means to measure the performance of cordless professional drills, a product used by pro tradesmen that accounts for a significant share of all power tool sales.

New Motor Design

Makita has redesigned their cordless planetary gear system making it more compact, lighter yet still remain a viable candidate in the durability contest.  The Makita 18V LXT ½” Drill-Driver Model LXFD01 has 16 clutch settings and a 2-speed all-metal transmission (0-400/0-1,500RPM) to cover a wide range of applications.

This new drill has an improved ergonomic design with a new rubberized soft grip,built-in L.E.D. light and an ENERGY STAR

I hope to test one of these units out soon and get back to you.
