Kwikset KEVO Door Lock Uses Smartphone and touch-to-open technologydeadbolt and FOB

The folks at Kwikset now have a new smart lock, called KEVO.

KEVO uses a smartphone or FOB to send a signal to the lock to allow it to be unlocked with a touch of the finger.

The Kwikset KEVO Door Lock basically transforms your smartphone into a key without  you having to remove the phone from your pocket.

How Kevo Works

The Kwikset KEVO Door Lock is blue-tooth enabled and now allows for a new interface for keys, using the latest Bluetooth Low Energy™ 4.0 technology.

The KEVO mobile phone app turns a smartphone into an electronic key (eKey) and allows the deadbolt to recognize and respond quickly to the touch of a finger, the KEVO app runs in the background of the smartphone and does not need to be opened to unlock the deadbolt.

Home Safety – “inside the house”

KEVO has an intelligent positioning technology that detects whether an authorized user is inside or outside of the home before granting access to prevent unauthorized entry by other persons.

The Kwikset KEVO door lock uses multiple levels of encryption to increase digital security, and is tested to stringent lock picking [UL 437, par. 11.6.] and physical lock security standards, such as bump-proof.

The KEVO lock has a BumpGuard™ component that incorporates a side locking bar which replaces the traditional pin and tumbler design, to prevent lock-bumping.

Powered by Batteries

Kevo installs similar to a deadbolt and operates on four included AA batteries.

KEVO Mobile App Information

The Kevo Mobile App can be download free from app stores.

The app is used for initial setup, sending, disabling and deleting eKeys, viewing history of lock activity, and setting up other configurable features and options of the smart lock.

Kevo Web Portal: Mobile app users can also access their accounts through the Kevo web portal on a computer or mobile device. The user can send, disable and delete eKeys through the portal and delete a lost or stolen smartphone from the Kevo system.

Notifications: The Kevo mobile app can send users smartphone notifications when the door is locked or unlocked by eKey holders.

History Log: A history of the lock’s activity provides the times and dates that eKeys were sent and received as well as when eKey holders locked and unlocked the door.

Audio/Visual Indicators:  visual and optional audio indicators communicate smart lock activity and battery life.  when the batteries run low an audible and visual indicator  display at the lock as well sends a  mobile app alert and notification.

Multiple Users

The KEVO mobile app allows different levels of permission for key-holders, such as Administrator or user, and even allows authorization to send, disable and delete eKeys.
