BROAN SmartSense System Helps Prevent Mold

By Robert Robillard on Bathrooms

Mold inside a home is dangerous not just for the obvious health concerns like asthma and allergic reactions but also for the costly repairs it causes.

Many newer homes are so tight that the air inside becomes nasty and stale.  Proper ventilation removes old, stale air and replaces it with fresh air.

The exchange of fresh air removes moisture and minimizes mold and mildew growth.  It also helps remove  indoor pollutants and off-gassing formaldehyde from building materials, carpets and other furnishings.

BROAN SmartSense ventilation fans have the solution for intermittent ventilation and providing a tight home with make up air.

The SmartSense system is a control that attaches to each fan in the home and using the ASHRAE formula based on the size of your home, a ventilation rate is assigned to each fan.   The SmartSense system  automatically coordinates your ventilation fans to turn on and off intermittently throughout the day.

These fans are super quiet at 0.3 to 0.7 sones and are designed for continuous duty when combined with BROAN make up air dampers.

A study by the EPA claims that preventing mold build-up in the home is as easy as decreasing humidity by 30 to 60 percent and optimizing home ventilation, especially in bathrooms and kitchens.

Ventilation fans from BROAN and NuTone can be installed anywhere in the home and come equipped with a SmartSense control, which provides an exact ventilation rate needed based on the size of the home. The fan controls communicate digitally, without any additional wiring, through the use of Broan-NuTone’s LinkLogic™ System to sense humidity and increased ventilation needs.
