Using A Voltage Detector

What Is A Voltage Tester?Using A Voltage Detector

A voltage tester is a tool that determines whether there is electrical current flowing through a wire, it is also used to test for proper grounding. A quality voltage tester usually has a LED visual and an audible indicator when the circuit your testing is live.  When purchasing a voltage tester buy one rated for up to 500 volts, I prefer the pencil types over the dual wire voltage tester.

How Do You Use A Voltage Tester?

To use a voltage tester, touch the device to  wire or connection your testing.  If the component is receiving electricity, the light in the housing will glow and audible will sound. If the light doesn’t glow, the trouble is at this point.

Which Voltage Tester Do I Recommend?

I recently received the new Milwaukee CAT IV 1000 volt Voltage Detector with LED.   After using this in the field on remodeling and renovation projects it quickly became my favorite tester, replacing my trusty Fluke tester.

It’s compact, super easy to use and the LED and visual and audible indicator are great features.  The Milwaukee CAT IV 1000 volt Voltage Detector with LED sells for approximately $ 25.00.

Milwaukee CAT IV 1000 volt Voltage Detector

The Milwaukee CAT IV 1000 volt Voltage Detector with LED addresses two needs for the user:

1. It  detects voltage at a wide range of 50-1000 AC with the highest safety rating available,

2. It has an extra bright LED work light to illuminate the work space.

The Milwaukee CAT IV 1000 volt Voltage Detectors integrated LED work light that is 3 times brighter, and has a loud buzzer, not to mention the highest safety rating of Milwaukee CAT IV 1000 volts. A  built-in a power-on indicator lets users know if their batteries are working before testing.

The new voltage detector provides a durable tip for checking outlets, and when voltage is present, the tool alerts the user both audibly and with a visual indicator that is visible on all sides.
