Rape Aggression Defense In Concord, MA

I feel that self defense training for girls should be a gym requirement for all teens.  This post is about the Rape Aggression Defense [R.A.D] program in Concord, Massachusetts.

R.A.D. stands for Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of basic, realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women, that can be easily recalled during times of stress.

The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training.

The cornerstone of R.A.D. is in education, awareness and avoidance. The course includes lecture, discussion and self defense techniques, suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Classes range from nine to twelve hours in length, depending on the Instructor.

The course is physically and mentally challenging, however, it is taught in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Most local police departments and college campuses offer this training. The following areas are covered in this class:

Awareness

Awareness and risk reduction discussion covering such issues as home and personal safety, date rape, carrying pepper spray and/or other weapons.

Risk reduction and risk avoidance is stressed and is also considered to 90 percent of the solution to avoiding potential problems.

Technique

Self-defense techniques that can be used in a variety of confrontational situations.

Simulation

Realistic simulation scenarios where officers are dressed in padded equipment to give class participants the opportunity to practice their techniques.

I’m a certified R.A.D instructor and was invited to assist Concord P.D. on one of their R.A.D. simulation nights. This night requires multiple officers or “aggressors” many smaller towns do not have the manpower and rely on other departments for help on this night.

Below are pictures of me before a R.A.D. simulation. [no participants are shown in photos]

I strongly recommend that all middle and high school girls attend a self defense training for girls at least one time before attending college. Contact your local police department or RAD for more information.

Is this the Concord Carpenter or the Michelin Man?
