Rockler Router Table Fence 58215

Rockler Router Table Fence, Model 58215 Review

For as little as it takes to get set up, and short money a router table and adjustable fence takes your work shop router to the next level. Next to the table saw, it’s easy to see why this workshop workhorse is often one of the first and most important tool purchases that a woodworker ever makes.

Router Table Operation

A router table make available a number of specialized joinery operations that would otherwise be extremely difficult – if not impossible – to perform.

Let’s Talk About the Rockler Router Table Fence

For many years my router table was attached to my table saw and I used a plywood fence that fit snug over the table saws sliding fence, allowing me left to right adjustments. When that table saw died I had to come up with a different solution.

I decided to go with a Paulk workbench design that had a drop insert for a router plate. I still needed a new fence system so I tried out the Rockler router table fence and some accessories. Read my review on the Paulk Workbench here.

The Rockler router table fence is an 2”W x 32”L x 3” H. It weighs 7lbs. It has various slots for adjustment and an opening for dust collection.

The Rockler fence is well-constructed, its L-shaped and made from extruded aluminum. The aluminum is straight, square and rigid and is immune to fluctuations in humidity, like wood fences do. There are 2 sets of slots on this fence. The inner set has a range from about 19-1/2″ to 24-1/4″. There is plenty of room for you to custom drill your own holes to match your T-tracks.

Rockler Router Fence –  Split Fence Design

I really like the two-piece or split fence. It consists of two separate, independently adjustable sections constructed out of MDF and coated with Melamine. Both fences feature T-tracks for feather boards and stops. The stops are controlled by comfortable knobs for easy, tool-free fence adjustments.

The 2 sections are designed to slide along the fence approximately 2-inche. This results in a router bit opening from 0 to 4-inches. Closing the fence down allows better workpiece support, and even zero-clearance support. Zero-clearance routing eliminates the gap between the fence and the router bit preventing the following:

  1. Prevents the work piece from being pulled into the fence just before the router bit
  2. Achieves a cleaner cut because the sub fence supports the workpiece fibers, preventing tear-out.

T-Track Compatible

The top of the fence has a universal T-track runs the full length of the fence, making it easy to add flip-down stops and other accessories.

A transparent bit guard is included to keep chips out of your face, and your fingers safe.

Rockler Router Table Accessories

I also added the 4-Piece Router Table Accessory Kit #56764, sold separately, which offers three feather boards and the dust port.

I connected the dust port to my shop dust collector, and it works amazingly well.

Cost

The Rockler router table costs $109.99 at Rockler. The 4-piece accessory kit costs $39.99. It would be hard to build it any better or cheaper. It certainly does everything you need.
