PORTER-CABLE 382 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander

PORTER -CABLE 5″ Random Orbital Sander Model 382 Review:Random Orbit Sander

I’ve been using PORTER -CABLE tools for many many years and currently own and regularly use 4 different sanders, all for different applications.

For general purpose sanding in the shop and on the job site I favor a random orbital sander and one that is small and light enough not to cause me fatigue.

The PORTER -CABLE Model 382 is just that. It’s a no frills, reasonably priced, reliable,  work horse sander.

First Impression:

The PORTER-CABLE 382 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander has a slow start controlled finishing system which helps prevent gouging your work surface if your touching it.   It also has a dual-plane counter-balanced fan to make the machine vibrate less, reducing fatigue – a huge plus!

The power switch is protected with a dust-sealed cover and the motor is sealed with 100 percent ball-bearing construction. this sander takes 5″ eight hole, hook and loop sand paper.

An easy removable dust bag is provided and when the bad is removed there is a dust extraction hose adapter that fits different size vacuum hoses.

Using the PORTER -CABLE 382 :

This sander performs as expected – excellent.  It’s a no frills sander that provides you with a quality finish.  If I were designing this tool I would make a longer cord and make the dust extractor connector attach easier and more secure.

This sander was designed with two grips in mind; a top grip and a web grip.  I found it to be super comfortable in my hands and I preferred holding it in the web of my hand.

How Much And Where To Buy:

At $49.00 online how can you not own two of these sanders.  I have one in my shop and one in my job site trailer.  You can find this excellent sander online here: PORTER-CABLE-382-5-Inch-Random-Sander
