Any concrete surface, especially in an outdoor living space, will go through wear and tear, whether it is from heavy usage or exposure to harsh outdoor elements. A pool deck, when damaged, needs an immediate fix to prevent damage from getting worse and to keep the risk of dangers at bay.

There have been negative reviews about this where the surface did not hold up or the coating has peeled off or cracked. If installed properly, these issues would not arise. Here are pool deck resurfacing tips consider ensuring a successful installation and long lasting results.

Tool, Equipment, and Material Check

Make sure that everything needed is accessible and in good functioning condition. If you are working with a contractor, do not hesitate to check their inventory and ask questions if there are items you are not familiar with. Not only will this reassure you, it will speed up the installation process and give you an idea of how experienced the contractor is.

Clean Surface Thoroughly

Any concrete surface that will be resurfaced needs to be cleaned thoroughly to get rid of any dirt buildup, grease, molds, and other damaging elements. This will also provide a clear canvas to work on, making the overlay or coating more adherent when applied.

Area Preparation

To minimize cleanup and additional work, preparing the whole area, including surrounding areas, is necessary. Are there furniture on the pool deck? Relocate them for the mean time. Any plants nearby? Cover them with newspaper or a plastic sheet to keep from getting sprayed.

Finalized Color and Design

This needs to be settled even before a project is started. It is highly recommended to choose a design that would suit your pool, the architectural style of your home, and your needs. Do not rely on magazines or online photographs. What looks good on other pool decks may not be the ideal one for yours.

Focus and Pay Attention to Detail

If you are resurfacing the deck yourself, make sure that there are no distractions. Inspect the area you are working on every so often to make sure you are not missing a spot. If you hired a contractor to do it, make sure that they are well-supervised. Observe them as they work and make sure that they pay real close to attention to what they are working on.

Follow Curing or Setting Time Strictly

Sometimes, even when the installation went smoothly as planned, immediate use can put all your efforts to waste. Whether it is a DIY or a contractor project, confirm if the product needs to cure, or if there is a specific time period before it can be used. Follow the time period given to a “T” and do not depend on how it looks to you or how it feels under your feet. This way, you can make sure that the material has settled and dried well enough to be far from damage caused by premature usage.
