Paslode Positive Placement Metal Connector Nailer ~ Review

Paslode recently sent me their new Positive Placement® Metal Connector Nailer, Model PF150S-PP to review.

The PF150S-PP is designed to drive Paslode positive placement metal connector nails, which are head marked for easy nail identification by building inspectors. These nails are paper-tape collated, heat treated and come in 1-1/2” x .131 and 1-1/2” x .148 brite or mechanically galvanized. They are ICC-ES recognized under ER2126.

FIRST IMPRESSION:

This compact metal connector nailer is lightweight – under 6.4 lbs. This is super important when installing overhead hanger and metal connectors. A light tool is going to reduce fatigue which will increase production and quality of installation.

Like all Paslode products the Paslode PF150S-PP has a durable, well constructed housing and a super comfortable grip.

An attached framing lumber hook is convenient when installing deck joists or other joists that sometimes require you to place the nailer down to make adjustments.
The exhaust port on the Paslode PF150S-PP is adjustable to keep from blowing debris into the users face.

The unit is approximately 11- ½” long and compact enough to easily fit between 16 o.k. framing spacing.

The Paslode PF150S-PP has a unique tip called the Positive Placement® probing tip, the PF150S-PP easily and accurately locates the metal connector hole, making this a fast and productive tool.

The PF150S-PP holds two strips of nails and is easy to load and unload. A lock out feature locks at four nails to prevent dry fire and protect the nail driver blade from damage.

USING THE TOOL:

I used the Paslode PF150S-PP to reinforce a circa 1863 floor joist system. The 2×6 floor joists were tenoned into a 6×6 beam and had developed cracks over the years.

The tool was incredibly light weight, easy to use and maneuver. It worked fast and had plenty of power to set the nails.

Because of the tight quarters I missed aligning up the holes a few times. In these situations the Paslode PF150S-PP nailed right through the metal hanger causing the nailer to hang up on the nail. I was able to easily remove the nailer and set the nail with a hammer.

I was able to install a 2×6 metal joist hanger faster than by hand or with a palm nailer. I would venture to guess that this tool is ten times faster than hand nailing.

OVERALL IMPRESSION:

The Paslode PF150S-PP proved to be a durable, light weight, fast and productive tool! If you are involved in any production work, building, remodeling or large deck building this tool will pay for itself in the first few jobs!

I highly recommended it!
