KEEN Milwaukee WP Industrial Boots on the ACC Job-Site

KEEN, a relatively young company, founded in 2003 has grown into a reputable, reliable, and popular choice for those of us in the trades. KEEN footwear is very prevalent on job-sites during warm months in New England due to its rugged qualities and utilitarian design. Now with KEEN’s release of an Industrial Utility line, they have applied their innovation and signature thick black bumper toe, creating a high quality and job-site ready boot.

We here at A Concord Carpenter greatly respect the KEEN brand and were very excited to try some of their offerings from their Utility line. We’ve been wearing the KEEN Milwaukee WP Industrial Boots and absolutely LOVE them. The boots have all the appropriate job-site features, they are comfortable, and they showcase the unique KEEN style that has made this footwear so popular.

Features

KEEN.DRY is a proprietary waterproof, breathable membrane that lets vapor out without letting water in.

KEEN.WELT Welted construction is a tried-and-true footwear construction that typically comprises of a strip of leather or other material stitched to the upper and insole of the shoe simultaneously and then stitched and cemented to the out-sole. This process provides a more durable, longer wear as well as increased flexibility and ventilation for the wearer.

KEEN Patented Toe Protection where the shoe outsoles wrap up and over the toes for ultimate protection.

METATOMICAL FOOTBED DESIGN This internal support mechanism is anatomically engineered to provide excellent arch support and cradle the natural contours of the foot.

KEEN LEFT & RIGHT ASYMMETRICAL STEEL TOE Uniquely anatomically correct steel-toe design provides a roomier toe box and maximum comfort. Meets ASTM F2412-11 and F2413-11 I/75 and C/75 standards.

Out of the Box

The boot really impressed me with the quality of construction, double stitched seams, the right material in the right places, and light in weight. The inside of the boot is a bright yellow and the toe features a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on it, the logo for KEEN’s utility line, which is a nice touch.

At first glance I thought the boot was going to look odd, aside from the trademark wrapped toe of KEEN footwear, and was a little hesitant to showcase them on the job-site. But with a pair of pants on they look great! Rugged, practical, and fit right in with the classic boot wearers on my crew. KEEN actually has a feature on their site to see what the shoe, or in this case boot, look like with a pair of pants on. A great feature if you are looking to buy footwear online.

Performance

The boot is really light weight and paired with the metatomical design makes for a VERY comfortable boot. I am light on my feet all day and at the end, regardless of how tough a day it was, my feet feel great. I’ve worn these boots in snow, mud, and stomped around in deep puddles during the course of a work day and not once have I had wet feet or socks to deal with. These boots are bullet proof when it comes to the elements and this is another reason your feet stay so comfortable throughout the day.

Another impressive feature is the asymmetrical steel toe, each designed for the left and right foot. I’ve worn steel toed or composite boots my entire professional career, first in the military and now as a carpenter, and you can always tell there is toe protection in a boot and often breaking in a boot can be tough due to the toe. But these KEEN Milwaukee WP Industrial Boots are the only exception i’ve found, the steel toe and the rubber over mold seem to marry together perfectly and you can’t feel a thing.

Overall Impression

KEEN born out of a utilitarian inspiration has been making great footwear for over a decade and what better company than KEEN to develop products for folks who abuse their feet and need reliable protection to keep them working hard. The KEEN utility line is well worth looking at if you are in the market for a boot as a construction worker or a tradesperson. We LOVED the Milwaukee WP boot and would definitely recommend it to anyone who works outside.
