Child Safe Home Office
In the residential remodeling world we occasionally get calls from folks asking us how to make a home office child-friendly.
Most of the times we handle items such as securing heavy bookcases and tall display cases to the wall to prevent tipping hazards from inquisitive climbing children.
The rest is usually common sense and involve the following:
- Password-protect your computer. A toddler touching the keyboard can make files disappear or settings change that can take hours to fix.
- A drawer full of staples, paper clips, tape, etc. are great fun to toddlers. Keep these items locked or out of their reach.
- Set up a toy desk near yours for your child, with age-appropriate items, so they can feel like a grown-up.
- Secure bookcases to the wall, especially if your child is a climber.
- Cover electrical outlets and secure computer and printer cords to the floor to prevent tripping hazards.
