Hiding A Finish Nail

Making Finish Nails Disappear – Carpenter Tip

A friend of mine who attended the North Bennet Street School of Carpentry showed me this trick on, hiding a finish nail, many years ago.  Its great when you need to hid a nail and do not want to to see a putty patch.

Use a very sharp chisel or a round gouge and carefully chisel up a small sliver of the wood your fastening.  Install your finish nail  underneath the lifted sliver of wood and then glue the wood back down, clamping it until it dries.  If you are unable to use a clamp in the area of the fastener then use blue tape or add weight over it.  Sand flush when dry.
