HP Adopts Green Batteries for Notebooks

Westborough-based lithium ion battery developer Boston-Power Inc. reports it has landed its first manufacturing and distribution partner for its Sonata line of portable power devices.

Environmentally Friendly Battery

Hewlett Packard Co. will be the first computer manufacturer to offer the Sonata, an environmentally friendly next-generation battery, as an upgrade option with certain model notebook computers beginning in early 2009.

What makes Boston-Power’s Sonata batteries greener than other lithium-ion batteries on the market? They can last three years, or 1,000 charging cycles, before the battery’s capacity to hold power becomes substantially diminished. Conventional lithium-ion batteries might only go 300 cycles or less. Thus, fewer replacement batteries are required.
