Glass Enclosed Mudroom

Removing The Fishbowl!

This week it’s been HOT HOT HOT! We’re working on Lang Street glass enclosed mudroom.

In this post we were tasked with removing this glass enclosed mudroom entry way, which I refer to as the fish bowl, as well as the door and surrounding floor tile.

The glass panels on the fishbowl were 1/2 inch thick and ran floor to ceiling, as did the door. They were heavy!

Unfortunately, when we removed the tile at the doorway we discovered sub floor rot which led to structural rot and necessitated a larger than appeared repair.

The glass enclosed mudroom  also affectionately referred to as the “fish bowl” removed!

This entire room will receive hardwood flooring. The owner chose 4″ wide oak flooring and we will stain it a walnut color.

Floor joists had to be cut back and headed off to repair this damage. From initial inspection there was a previous repair to this floor system, [see pressure treated joists] but the carpenters stopped their repairs at the door and glass windows – probably so they have to deal with the interior flooring, etc.

By doing this they only removed 80 or 90 percent of the rot and did not solve the water issue. As a result the rot process continued to happen.
