Door Sagging Issue

By Robert Robillard on Home Repairs And Remodeling

I recently worked for a client where every other door in the house had a door issue. Apparently when the prehung doors were installed they were not shimmed properly and as a result the doors developed problems.

One issue that was recurring was the top hinge was loose causing the door to sag away from the hinge side jamb and rub against the jamb on the opposite end.

To solve this issue and prevent it from happening again I replaced the short center screw of the top hinge with a 3-in. screw driven into the framing. Driving in this screw will often change the gap at the top and the opposite side of the door so go slowly and frequently check the reveal on the door.
