Carpenter’s Tip – Prevent Split Wood

I’ve seen it a thousand times, a well intentioned person is installing a nail at the end of a board and POW the board splits!!!

If using conventional nails, watch out at the ends of pieces of wood this ios an area that tends to split easy.

Regular nails are pointed and they can easily cause splits but a blunted nail will not.

Blunt Nail Tip

Either dull the nail tip with a quick tap of your hammer or pre-drill a small hole to avoid splitting.

When blunting the nail I typically place the head of the nail on a hard surface like the rail of my ladder, concrete or even the head of an installed nail.   Lightly tap the point of the nail with your hammer adn your done@
