If you follow this site you’ll notice that when drilling holes I often use Forstner drill bits.  I like these type of bits for their clean and consistent holes. That’s why we tool a look at the Wave Cutter Evolution Drill Bits.

What is so special with Forstner bits?

Forstner drill bits are primarily guided by the outside rim and not a center point.  They are great for drilling at an angle or in overlapping holes; and holes that are on the materials edge.

Additionally, Forstner drill bits create square-bottomed holes which may be required for certain applications or projects such as Euro hinges,  coat pegs or wood plugs. These bit are also efficient at removing large amounts of material in no time at all.

Forstner drill bits come in a variety of  diameters typically ranging from 1/4 inch up to over 3 inches (6 – 75mm) and are often sold in sets.

The folks over at Eagle America recently sent me two drill bits from a new line of bits that they are now carrying.  These drill bits are made by FISCH-TOOLS.  They send me a 35mm Wave Cutter Forstner drill bit and a 1-1/8″ Self-Feeding drill bit.

These Wave Cutter Forstner drill bits feature a totally new cutting head design that can drill 3.6 times as many holes as a standard Forstner drill bit. According to Fisch Tools these bits can drill 972 times compared to a standard Forstner drill bit which was 270 times.

For me what I like the most is that these Wave Cutter bits can be re-sharpened up to 30 times.  That alone makes this bit a cost saving investment.

I also liked the hex shank which always gives the bit better gripping capability and prevents slipping in the drill chuck.  The “wavy” cutting rim produces less heat and results in a super clean cut.

I’ve been using these two bits in the shop and on projects and really like them.   I suggest you try them out and see for yourself.
