The folks at Ryobi sent me their TEK 4 Infrared thermometer to evaluate and review.

First Impression:

The thermometer is a very simple point and shoot design with a built in target pointer laser.  Ryobi claims the TEK 4 Thermometer has an accuracy of plus or minus two degrees.

The thermometer looks like a small cordless driver and is light and comfortable to hold.  It measures temperatures for as long as the trigger is held.  It takes a reading every  1/2 second. Measurements are displayed on screen and can be shown in Fahrenheit or Celsius.  Maximum and minimum ranges can also be tracked and displayed.

Te Tek4 includes can store up to ten temperature readings.

Using The TEK 4 Thermometer:Ryobi TEK4 Infrared Thermometer

These types of thermometers are commonly used by HVAC professionals and plumbers.  I used it on a job recently trying to determine if insulation inside a wall had settled.  I used the TEK4 Thermometer at different heights along stud bays to determine if there were cold spots.  It’s also good for identifying air leaks and drafts.

The best use was testing my beer frig and finding out that I was not keeping my beer cold enough!
