ROCKWELL 12-VOLT LITHIUM-ION POWERED CORDLESS DRILL/DRIVERROCKWELL 12-VOLT DRILL/DRIVER RK2510K2

Cordless tools are becoming more and more popular as they afford it’s user independence of electrical outlets and the freedom to move around without a cord.

Rockwell® recently sent me their 12-volt LithiumTech™ Drill/Driver and Impact Driver  set to evaluate.  I’ve evaluated a few tools from Rockwell®, most notably the Rockwell®  Sonicrafter.

FIRST IMPRESSION:

The Drill / Driver set comes with a storage bag, two interchangeable 12-volt lithium-ion battery packs, and a charger which charges the lithium-ion batteries  in 30 minutes. The beauty of these batteries is that they last longer and have a greater number of recharges. They also are recyclable, which keeps their components circulating and out of landfills ~ I like that!

Both tools have comfortable ergonomically designed handles and are extremely light in weight.

SPECIFICATIONS:

The Rockwell 12V LithiumTech Drill/Driver:

The Rockwell 12V LithiumTech Drill/Driver has a two-speed switch which reach an impressive 0-350 and 0-1300 rpm. [no load]

The drill/driver has 230 in. lbs. of torque, plenty of power for drilling or driving screws in a variety of materials. Drilling capacity is 1-1/8 in. in wood and 3/8 in. in steel. The drill/driver has a 3/8 in. keyless chuck, 15-torque settings plus a drill mode. An automatic spindle lock allows rapid bit changes.

An LED light helps illuminate the work area.

The Rockwell 12V LithiumTech Impact Driver:

The Rockwell 12V LithiumTech Impact Driver has 890 in. lbs. of torque, a variable speed switch and a ¼ in. quick connect, reversible driver operates at 0-2400 rpm (no-load speed) and 0-3000 bpm. Its hammer and anvil action provides ample torque to drive and remove stubborn screws.

The tool weighs 2.9 pounds with the battery and packs a decent punch.   A built-in LED light helps illuminate the work area.

The Rockwell® LithiuTech 12V Battery Charger is unique,  with a built-in USB recharging port for charging your cellphone or  MP3 player.

Rockwell’s Free Batteries for Life program:

Hats off to Rockwell’s Free Batteries for Life program which offers registered users new replacement batteries free for the life of tool and recycles the old battery.

The Free Batteries for Life program reduces the overall cost of owning a Rockwell cordless tool by 40 to 70 percent.  ~ Impressive!!!

OVERALL IMPRESSION:

Both the Rockwell 12V LithiumTech Drill/Driver and Rockwell 12V LithiumTech  Impact Driver performed well in the shop and in the field.  These tools are not designed to replace the power and torque of your 18 volt tools.  They are designed for lighter duty installation, maintenance and workshop use.

As a professional, I use them for installing and maintaining cabinet doors, door and window hardware, storm doors, shutters and many other uses in and around the house.  I even used it to replace the cord in my circular saw.

As a homeowner you’ll find the Rockwell 12V LithiumTech combo set is a great investment.   The set is powerful enough to handle most if not all of your do-it-yourself chores and the lithium-ion batteries deliver longer life and run-time with fade-free power.   The combo sets ergonomic, compact and lightweight design offer it’s user comfort and convenience.
