PORTER-CABLE Orbital Reciprocating PC85TRSOK TigerSaw™ Review

PORTER-CABLE recently sent me their new PORTER-CABLE Reciprocating TigerSaw PC85TRSOK to evaluate.  the TigerSaw is perfect for cutting applications, including wood cutting, metal cutting, masonry cutting and demolition.

First Impression:

The PORTER-CABLE Reciprocating TigerSaw PC85TRSOK has a 8.5 AMP motor and weighs only 7.3 pounds.  Its compact and lightweight.

The TigerSaw™ features an  1- 1/8” blade stroke that delivers 3,200 SPM.  An orbital dial selector allows you to switch between orbital blade movement or straight back and forth. This saw is clearly designed for serious DIYers and professionals looking to perform aggressive cutting applications.

The  TigerSaw™ also unit features a tool-free shoe adjustment which is useful when controlling the depth of cut and also a tool free twist lock blade clamp for fast and easy blade changes.  The blade clamp was redesigned to include two tabs that allow the user to easily twist the blade clamp.  I have an older TigerSaw model which has a smooth, round blade clamp.  Often times I find this clamp difficult to twist.

The  TigerSaw™ was super comfortable to use. The tools weight as well as the ergonimic handle, rubber over molding and two finfger sized trigger were comfortable to use and in my opinion seemed to reduce fatigue during use.

The only negative to the saw was it’s plastic case.  Unlike most tools this case does have room for accessories and blades but it arrived in the mail with a cracked case.   For this tool to stand up to job site conditions Porter-Cable is going to have to beef up this case or go back to the metal cases.

Using The PC85TRSOK  TigerSaw™

The TigerSaw™ was super easy to use.  It is an aggressive cutting and easy to use reciprocating. saw.   The body housing allows the tools to be used in tight corners or up against walls or floors for flush cutting – nice touch!

The weight of the saw also allowed me to weild it one handed when necessary.

Overall Impression:

I was impressed with this saw, other than the carry case, I have nothing negative to report.  It’s an unbelievable value for the size and power that it delivers.  Well done Porter-Cable!

The  PC85TRSOK TigerSaw unit is sold at Lowe’s, independent distributors and Amazon.com for approximately $79.97. The reciprocating saw comes with a three-year limited warranty, one-year service contract and 90-day money-back guarantee.
