PORTER-CABLE Compact Router and Combination Kit

PORTER-CABLE has a new woodworking router coming out this November 2010.

The Fixed Base Compact Router (450) and Fixed/Plunge Base Combination Kit (450PK). These new products deliver a lightweight, [6lbs] ergonomically sized router similar to the laminate trimmers were used to with the power and performance of a standard router and ability to plunge.

The new high performance Compact Router features a 1-1/4 peak HP motor that boasts more power than competitors’ palm routers and motor electronics that maintain the unit’s speed even under loads of heavy material removal. The motor also promotes soft start which reduces twist, thus enabling better control and precision. A low, contoured gripping surface lowers the center of gravity for advanced control and comfort compared to other trimmers and routers. The ergonomic design allows the woodworker to physically guide the material along the edge, if desired, for exceptional accuracy, and flared base arches also offer an easy reference point for the hand.

A patent-pending depth adjustment ring provides a quick, intuitive depth setting to maximize productivity and consistency in the woodshop, and an exclusive, easy to use 12-position spindle lock allows ratcheting for great accuracy and ultimate convenience.

“Professional woodworkers will find quick release tabs create a simple base release, and the adjustable clamp enables smooth and secure actuation,” said Fuchs. “An extended collet provides desirable bit contact and is easy to tighten and loosen, and a round sub-base adds precision with radius referencing.”

The PORTER-CABLE Compact Router will also fit an easy to maneuver, lightweight (six pounds) plunge base that comes as part of the combination kit. The kit features a depth scale and marker (two-inch depth ability), a release-to-lock lever to maintain the designated depth setting and rubber handles for a non-slip grip. The plunge mechanism delivers a smooth stroke for control, and the five-step adjustable turret stop enables stepped plunge cuts for excellent accuracy. A clear sub-base adds visibility and durability, and the lightweight design provides excellent mobility and control during application.

The PORTER-CABLE Compact Router and Kit will be available in specialty woodworking retailers in November 2010. The Compact Router will retail for $129 and the Fixed/Plunge Base Combination Kit will retail for $189. Both come with a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract and 90-day money-back guarantee. Additionally, there are a number of complementary accessories, including a dust adaptor for the fixed base(45003), a dust adaptor for the plunge base (45004), a straight edge guide for the fixed base (45006), a straight edge and circle cutting guide for the plunge base (42690), template guides (42000) and a centering cone for sub-base alignment (45005).
