Superior Walls Foundation Systems

No More Scary Basements

Remember the basements of your youth? Many were dark, damp places used for storage with exposed pipes and structural steel support beams. Sometimes you had to walk down rickety steps with a single exposed light bulb overhead to get to laundry machines or your dad’s workbench area.

Today’s homeowners don’t have to put up with cobwebs in their hair, a shaky banister railing or cold, drafty basements. When Superior Walls began constructing energy-efficient, damp-proof basements in 1981, homeowners were able to add clean, bright and livable space to their homes.

“The house I grew up in had a low basement ceiling, hard concrete floor and mice making an occasional appearance,” says Jim Costello, president of Superior Walls of America. “That’s just a bad memory when I look at homes today with fully-insulated precast concrete foundation systems that encourage homeowners to use their basements as spas, game rooms, office space, craft areas and relaxation zones.

“These days we routinely see realtors ‘up selling’ the basement on new homes that have our foundation systems. The extra space in the home equates to immediate benefits for the homeowner and long-term benefits with added resale value.”

Superior Walls Foundation Systems

Warm and dry, energy-efficient  Xi™ wall panels from Superior Walls® are constructed with a concrete face shell, backed by 2-1/2-inches of DOW® Styrofoam™ insulation. Steel reinforced concrete walls create a permanent barrier against sidewall water penetration, making the basement system damp-proof.

Installed in just a day on the job site, a Superior Walls foundation is custom made to the specifications of an individual home, including built-in openings for windows and doors. Pre-engineered access for wiring or small plumbing elements, along with smart stud facing for easy drywall installation, are included and help speed up the installation process.  A certified installation crew sets the foundation in place in less than a day so that construction on the home itself can start immediately.

“There’s nothing like the feeling of having extra living space in your home,” says Costello. “Whether you designate the comfortable basement as a ‘children zone’ to remove clutter and noise from the rest of the house or use the space as a home theater, livable basements enhance our lives and homes.

“Having basement space that’s comfortable and functional makes so much sense for homeowners. Memories of musty-smelling basements overcrowded with boxes simply vanish when people make the decision at the time of construction to use pre-cast insulated foundation systems. This is a long-term investment in their family’s happiness and in the resale value of their house.”

Now celebrating its 30thanniversary year, Superior Walls produces the first and only foundation systems to have attained the Green Approved Product designation by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center. For more information visit www.superiorwalls.com.
