JOHNSON Magnetic Glo-View Torpedo Level

Johnson  Glo-View Magnetic Aluminum Torpedo Level Model # 5500M-GLO

Johnson Level recently Rare Earth Magnetic Torpedo Level with their Glo-View technology.  According to Johnson Glo-View is a phosphorescent pigment  with an afterglow 10 times greater than conventional  phosphorescent.

I was curious to see just how well the Glo-View worked.Glo-View technology is basically a glow in the dark material that surrounds the vials.

I took it down into my basement shop and turned off the lights – WOW!  Not only did the vial surrounds glow but they glowed so bright that the levels bubble was clearly visible – very impressive Johnson!

Just think about how handy this will be for plumbers, HVAV installers, electricians and contractors who all work in basements, crawl spaces and dark, poorly lit areas.

Holding the level up to a bright ultraviolet [UV] light source will make the Glo-View brighter.  I found that the longer the level was exposed to UV light the brighter and loner it illuminated.

The Johnson Glo-View torpedo level has a cast aluminum outer frame and an inner plastic body.  One side of this aluminum frame has a V-groove for pipes and the other side is flat with three inserted rare earth magnets.

This torpedo level measures  9 -inches and houses three acrylic vials.   One level vial, one plum vial and the third is a 45 Degree Vial.

Features:

  • Patented Glo-View® vial enhances readability in low light conditions
  • Powerful GripTight® rare earth magnets hold to ferrous metal surfaces
  • 9″ solid aluminum frame
  • V-groove frame fits on pipe and conduit
  • 3 vials read plumb, level, and 45°
