Designing Built In Bookcases

A fireplace is the focal point of any room.
If you are looking for a great way to dress up the look your room, consider having bookcases and a custom mantle installed.

In the finish carpentry world a custom or semi-custom fireplace mantle is often the aesthetic showpiece of the room and a place to display family heirlooms, photos, treasured artworks, knickknacks and more recently flat screen televisions.

Adding Bookcases and Crown Molding:

The drawing above shows a combination of options in which you can upgrade your fireplace.
The drawing draws from several design components from a fireplace mantles, two types of bookcases, fluted columns and crown molding.  All of these options can add a classic look that will add great aesthetics and value to your home.

Fireplace Mantles and Bookcases Components:

LEFT
on the left is a flanking bookcase with adjustable shelves.
OVER MANTLE
is usually designed to “mirror” the style and detail of the mantelpiece, the over mantle adds a sense of luxury to a room.
RIGHT
on the right is a cabinet base with a counter top and an upper bookcase. This type of bookcase cabinetry adds hidden storage and creates additional display options. Doors styles can be detailed with flat or raised panels.
