DCR175-CN In Line Cap Nailer Review

The folks at Duo-Fast recently sent me their Duo Fast Cap Nailer DCR175CN to review.

The DCR175CN is a pneumatic nailer that is designed to deliver a 7/8 to 1-3/4 inch roofing nail along with a plastic cap to effectively and efficiently install building house wrap, synthetic roofing underlayment and roofing felt.

This cap nailer results in a better more reliable weather seal and install by holding better than older traditional fastening.  The result is a fastener that resists tearing from wind and elements.

First Impression:

The Duo Fast Cap Nailer DCR175CN weighs 8 pounds and is not light but is well balanced.  The “in-line” design means that the plastic caps and nails are stored in line and self feed.

The tool was easy to adjust for nail size as well as load.   It takes a standard  coil of roofing nails and a spool of 240 caps.    The caps come in a carton of 10 totaling 4200 caps.

Using the Duo Fast Cap Nailer DCR175CN:

We used the  on the job site installing Tyvek house wrap.  There is no comparison when you compare the duo-Fast caps to conventional hammer stapler or hand nailing with roofing nails.  Staples just for not hold up to the weather and wind and hand nailing is just too cumbersome and time consuming.  Plus the caps hold the seams of the house wrap tight ensuring that the building envelope stays in tack and the structure dry prior to the siding being installed.

The DCR175-CN also has a depth of drive function that is easy to adjust and worked well.   A switch at the back end of the tool can shut off the caps allowing you to install roofing nails only is desired.

If your a roofer or siding contractor the Duo Fast Cap Nailer DCR175CN is a no brain-er and should be in your tool box.

The Duo-Fast cap system uses less fasteners than conventional methods and holds better.  It has quickly become the “best practice” when installing building house wrap, synthetic roofing underlayment and roofing felt.
