Rockwell RK5140K Sonicrafter Hyperlock w/ Univeral Fit and Constant Speed Control Oscillating Tool Kit

I was recently asked by Concord Carpenter to do a tool review on the Rockwell RK5140K Sonicrafter Oscillating Tool Kit.

Prior to this review, I had not used a Rockwell product. Currently I own a Dremel Multimax Oscillating Kit. I was eager to jump in on this review, and had some good ideas on how to put it to the test.

First Impression:

The first thing that caught my eye with the Rockwell RK5140K Sonicrafter Oscillating Tool Kit was the Hyperlock mechanism for quick and easy tool change. This mechanism has a flip lock feature. Once the latch is flipped open, you turn it to unlock, after turning just a few rotations the tool is able to swap out. After securing the mechanism, the latch returns to the normal position, snapping into place. The Hypelock mechanism, when secured, has a clamping force of one ton!

The Rockwell RK5140K comes with several great attachments. You get the following:

  • (1) 1-3/8” Bi-Metal end-cut blade,
  • (1) 3-1/8″ HSS semicircle saw blade,
  • (1) rigid scraper blade,
  • (1) sanding pad,
  • (3) sanding sheets,
  • (1) carbide semicircle (grout) blade and
  • (1) Sonishear.

All items can be neatly secured in a hard, water-proof carrying case. This case has attachment compartments located at the top of lid.

Another great feature for the RK5140K is the Variable Speed Dial which will allow precise control over the tool while you are using it. Going hand in hand with the Variable Speed Dial is also the Constant Speed Control, which electronically maintains the speed of cut under a stressful load.

The Rockwell RK5140K Sonicrafter Oscillating Tool Kit Project:

One project I felt the Rockwell RK5140K could help me with was a custom rack for my fishing equipment. My fishing rods ( 8 ) take up a lot of space in my work area of my finished basement. I used the HSS semicircle bi metal cutting blade to cut some PVC piping. Once the PVC was marked out in even intervals, cutting was a breeze. I was finished cutting all 16 pieces of PVC in just under 5 minutes.

Overall Impression:

After my weekend project was complete, the Rockwell Sonicrafter was placed on my tool storage rack right next to my other go to equipment. I could not believe the power this tool packs and how fast it cut through the PVC. Cutting with the BI-Metal Semicircle attachment was simply like cutting butter with a hot knife. I fully intend on making sure this tool and all the attachments are with me on all my future projects.

How Much And Where To Buy:

The Rockwell Sonicrafter Oscillating Tool Kit RK5140K can be purchased for 123.95 online here: Rockwell-RK5140K-Sonicrafter-Hyperlock-Oscillating
