The folks at Leviton have a new passive infrared [PIR] occupancy Sensor and dimmer designed to control current LED, CFL, incandescent and halogen loads.

The Leviton occupancy sensor and dimmer device responds to the presence and absence of people in the sensor’s field of view.  Once the switch senses a person approaching it turns on the lights, and a built in, programmable time delay turns off the lights after a brief period of time.

We all became familiar with the occupancy sensors in commercial restrooms and the earlier models that would shut off when you were in the stall.  Now a days technology has improved!   Over the past few years, this technology has changed to incorporate a wide variety of sensors for use in many residential and commercial applications.

The Leviton occupancy sensor and dimmer system consists of a passive infrared (PIR) sensing motion detector, turns lights on when somone enters the room and off when they leave.

 The Leviton occupancy sensor and dimmer provides 180 degrees of sensor coverage around the switch, and a timer that turns the light off after a preset amount of time (15 sec. -15 minutes). Also features a manual switch for overriding the sensor.

This is a god send when you have children like mine.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come home late in the afternoon and found all three kids bedroom lights, the bathroom and hall lights left on all day.   The Leviton occupancy sensor and dimmer system reduces lighting costs, provides convenience and lowers electrical bills.  I  commercial buildings lighting is typically the single largest user of electricity.
