Bagster Dumpster In A Bag

Waste Management’s Bagster Dumpster in a Bag

By now you might have seen job sites in your area with the bright green bag labeled ” Bagster Dumpster In A Bag.”  I recently discovered them and now use the Bagster bag as a quintessential part of my remodeling companies waste removal.

I run a small remodeling company  and prior to learning about the Bagster bags I would bring a dozen or so trash barrels from job site to job site.  Once filled I would have to arrange for a trash contractor to pick up the trash and then I’d have to return to the job site to retrieve my barrels.  Or I would have to order a dumpster and often not fill it to capacity.

Now instead of having to carry all of these barrels I simply store a few dumpster bags in my tool trailer.  It is a great alternative for remodeling projects that don’t require me full-sized dumpster.

What Is The Bagster Dumpster?

The Bagster is a dumpster in a bag and is a Waste Management product.  An innovation in waste removal, this product is a cost-effective, on-demand solution for do-it-yourself (DIY) enthusiasts or professional contractors when a dumpster is too big for the job, access for a dumpster or timing is an issue.

The Bagster bag is large enough to hold full-sized items like doors, windows, drywall, and cabinets…and strong enough for heavy items like bathtubs and hardwood flooring.

The Bagster bag is an alternative to the large metal roll off trash dumpsters.   Using the Bagster Bags instead of calling a local company to rent a dumpster can save you time, potential property damage, aggravation and money.

The Bagster bag is made of a highly durable, woven bag that will not tear if punctured and can hold three cubic yards of debris and up to 3,300 pounds.

What is 3300 Pounds?

  • Twenty 30-Gallon Trash Bags
  • 1,280 SQ FT of Hardwood Flooring
  • 47 Sheets of Drywall
  • 900 SQ FT of Carpet or Tile

The Bagster Bag Is Easy To Use:

Most local lumberyards sell the Bagster bag.  It’s a 3-cu.-yd. heavy duty bag that can hold alot of trash an debris.  Once full you call Waste Management at 1-877-789-BAGS (2247) or log onto Bagster bag Web site for pickup.  The company picks up the bag with a truck-mounted articulating crane arm.

Bagster Bag Advantages:

The best advantage of the Baster dumpster in a bag is it has no time limit.  It is a perfect debris removal option for the DIYer who may need more time filling it up.  A dumpster often has a a set time limit associated with its fee and can damage your driveway or yard.

A second advantage is placement of the Baster.   The Baster can be placed anywhere within 16 ft. of the driveway or street .  Waste Management will pickup your Bagster bag with a large truck mounted with an overhead crane that can reach up to 16 feet from the edge of the street, alley or driveway.

Third, the Bagster bag service costs 50-70% less than a dumpster rental in many areas, making it a great alternative for those medium-sized projects that don’t require a full-sized dumpster.

Lastly the Bagster bag can be placed in areas that a dumpster cannot access.    The Waste Management collection truck can reach up to 16 feet away, even over a five-foot fence.  The fence must be within five feet of the street, alley or driveway.

What Not To Put In A Bagster Bag:

Waste Management does have some common sense exceptions of items NOT to place in the Bagster bags. This includes, mostly toxic and hazardous materials such as paint, oil, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs or ballasts, appliances, electronics, food waste, railroad ties, tires, medical waste, pesticides, chemicals, etc. Yard waste is unacceptable in some areas.

Bagster Bag Costs:

The bagster costs approximately $29.95 and are available locally at the big box stores, lumberyards a

nd online.  Waste management charges a standard fee of $164.00 in my area for pick up and $140 for additional bags pick up at the same time.

Overall Impression:

I like this concept alot, it’s ingenious.   Using the Bagster dumpster in a bag has huge benefits for tough to reach dumpster spots, DIY projects and projects that drag on over time.  The bags store small until ready to use and are convenient!

It is the perfect solution for small renovations or clean up jobs that are too small for a dumpster or where the location or the budget sustain a steel dumpster and its long term rental costs.

Where To Buy A Dumpster Bag?

The cheapest I’ve seen a 3 CUYD is $24.00 online here: BAGSTER-3CUYD-Bagster-Dumpster-Bag

I found RER dumpster in Billerica (855-rer-dump) has a 6 yard trailer for $300, cheaper than 2 bags and a lot easier to load. They worked with me on how long I could use the trailer and they backed it up to my front door close to the bathroom I demoed. They also have 10,15,20,and 30 yard dumpsters for $345 with one ton included after the 1st ton they charge .06 cents per pound- you only pay for what you throw away. ask for Dave , he will help you out.

  2. I used it for my half bath remodel. It’s good for smaller scale jobs that don’t have that much debris. Also the nice thing was no time limit. i filled it at my own pace.

Use coupon code 100-wmsal-178374 to save a few dollars as well on the pickup.

  3. I am getting ready for a kitchen remodel. I am planning on Freecycleing the cabinets and having someone take them away for free. If that works I can put the rest in trash cans and return the Bagster. If not I have a Bagster on hand ready to fill.

  4. We used it on the last bit of a bathroom/bedroom remodel and patio addition. It worked great. This size Is great if it’s a small job. My only problems were some of the stores were out of them. Also we usually work in upper class neighborhoods and a cover over it would be great so trash wouldn’t fly out. The driver had a little hard time picking up because it was about at the weight limit. It was around $30 for the bag and $99 for the pick up in my area.

  5. Cost more than expected. Took to long for them to pick up. Customer service rude and unhelpful. Would have been cheaper and quicker to just get a can.
    Never again.

      Hi Lionetus,

while I can not speak for the customer service portion – you should have been told, or at least checked the website for the cost. It’s a flat fee – unless you overloaded it.

  6. Whether Waste Management will pick up your bag or not is completely dependent on the whim or driving skills of the driver. I was a little dubious when I bought my first bag so I didn’t fill it full of heavy stuff just in case. I was around when they came to pick it up so I asked the driver if where I placed the bag was ok. He said the spot was no problem. So I placed a second bag in the same spot and filled it up. Now they won’t pick it up. The second driver says our driveway is too narrow even though it’s 20 feet wide and the same company has delivered full size 15 yard dumpsters in the past. So it’s just dependent on the driver and whether he can be bothered.
The customer service line was unable to provide an address to which I could send a complaint

    • Concord Carpenter says:

I would not accept that answer from customer service and ask to speak to a supervisor. I would also re-schedule another pick up.

      • My wife and I spoke to customer service several times, I was told that there was no supervisor to talk to but my case would be escalated to the next department which came to nothing. My wife was put through to another number but was left on hold for so long she gave up.
I got a six yard dumpster from another outfit and spent an hour or so transferring everything.
It’s funny how they could get in with a dumpster when Bagster couldn’t get in to pick up a bag.
My advice is not to bother. Just get a small dumpster instead.

Interesting that you write a critique of a product you have not used. Wouldn’t that be like Road & Track reviewing the handling of a car they never drove. My neighbor used one and it was a disaster.

In the Denver area where I live, I found different companies with 3,4,5,6,8,9,10 & 12 yard dumpsters that are very competitively priced.

I think I’ll stick with a metal dumpster.

      Hi Sparky,

since writing this post I have used the Bagster four time. It definetely has its place in the remodeling and repair industry.

Last week I completely gutted a 5 x 7 bathroom and everything went into the bagster.

  8. Rob -

We’re soon going to have our bathroom remodeled and our contractor recommended using exactly this Bagster. Sounded like a perfect solution. We’ll try to repost after the project is over to give an update on how well it worked.

    Best,
    Eric
