Workshop Tip: Using Clamp Blocks

Woodworking Clamping Tip:

One thing I always notice when clamping wood is you never have enough clamps and you can always use a third hand.

To solve my third hand problem I use woodworking jigs to help out:  I call them clamping blocks.

When clamping face frames or boxes that meet at ninety degrees I often use a  clamp block assembly jig to keep things square and prevent racking.

These jigs resemble a framing square, can be clamped easier than a square and work especially well keeping larger face frames aligned.

Using a framing square I cut these jigs out of scrap plywood.  A circle cut out and two smaller square cut-outs facilitate clamping and allow a place for my clamps to grab.

The inside corner was cut a forty-five degrees to ease the inside of corners and not cause issues with the face frame or glue squeeze out.

Rockler just started selling a plastic version of this called the Clamp-It. However I like the price of your version much better.
