Paslode Fuel Powered Framing NailerPaslode 30-degree cordless Framing Nailer review Review

Paslode recently sent me their Paslode’s CF-325 fuel powered, 30-degree,cordless framing nailer to evaluate.  The CF-325 is an upgrade from the old cordless technology and has been around for a few years now and seems to be gaining popularity on the job-sites.

If you have an older version of this nailer there are quite a few improvements the Cf-325 has:

The first change was in the fuel cartridge that powers Paslode’s drive system. The new QuickLode™ Fuel System employs a completely re-designed “no-step” canister that eliminates the pre-use snapping, twisting and aligning required by previous models. Users simply drop the fuel into the tool, close the fuel compartment door and nail off 1,200 nails per canister.

This fuel design features a steel O-rings, which allow the Paslode CF-325 to perform five times longer (50,000 drives) between recommended cleanings. When it is time to clean the tool, a re-designed air filter access door makes the task faster and easier than ever before.

Another notable enhancement is a newly designed nose-piece that is far more aggressive than its predecessor. The new nose-piece allows sure-footed toe-nailing at any angle.

The CF-325 was also re-engineered to deliver  faster firing than its predecessor or competitive tools.

We recently took our new nailer to task.  Here’s what we found:

First Impression:

I have only recently begun making a switch from pneumatic nailers to cordless and I the first thing I noticed was how well balanced and sure gripped the Cf-325 was.  A rubber back on the handle ensures that even sweaty hands keep a secure non-slip grip.

The initial battery charge time was 2 hours but seemed much quicker than that afterwards.  It seemed that 30 minutes was enough to get a green light.  After charging the battery I loaded the fuel cartridge and then nails ~ both were super easy to do.

The CF-325 has a large and easy to operate magazine follower slide.  Loading nails into the magazine was fast and easy.  One real nice feature on this nailer is the nail lockout, which prevents the nailer from being fired when there are only five [5] nails left.  The purpose of this feature out that protects the firing pin or other components from damage and to avoid wasting fuel.

One nice feature is the spring loaded, adjustable utility hook can be adjusted to fit on a tool belt or a rafter. I found this extremely useful when working off a ladder.

Probably the best feature, other than being cordless, is the tool less depth of drive adjustment.   This adjustment is quick and easy to use and because it is tool-less I found myself actually making the adjustments to over driven nails as opposed to just ignoring it like mot people do.

Using The CF-325 On the Job site:

We used the CF-325 to replace some rotted roof sheathing as well as frame in a new 3rd floor window.

The CF-325 performed extremely well with no jams or problems.  I used the tool less depth of drive adjustment to set my nails to drive consistently and with ease.   The nailer was able to keep up with my nailing speed but there is a little bit of cycle time between each shot, which might slow down someone who is used to bump nailing.

I found the tip on the CF325 aggressive enough to make for some real nice, slip-free toe nailing.   We used the CF-325 to drive 2 1/2″ and 3 1/4″ nails.  It’s compact size fit nicely between 16″ o.c. studs and made it easy to maneuver.

The CF-325 comes complete with a rugged carrying case, rechargeable battery and charger, one canister of degreaser, a tube of cordless oil, safety glasses and a comprehensive owner’s manual. The tool’s suggested retail price is $399 and is covered by a one year full warranty and a five year limited warranty.

 Overall Impression:

I was super impressed with the CF-325.   The improved speed and handling really make this a worthwhile cordless upgrade as well as a compliment to your corded framing nailer.  The time saved from not having to lug a compressor and hose up three floors was worth it alone.  Not to mention my back from carrying the compressor!

If you’re in the market for a cordless framing nailer then I highly recommend the Paslode CF-325 because of the great features and portability that it offers.  Time saved is money earned!   This nailer SAVES TIME!!
